    So suggests Lisa Zimmerman:

"Someone to keep an eye on - Alan Faneca. The 12-year veteran is getting close to the end of his career and he has an enormous contract. If Faneca doesn't decide to retire in the next few weeks, the Jets could look to trade him around the Draft. Offensive lineman Rob Turner could likely transition easily in the left guard spot, especially given the fact that the other four linemen are all returning. However, he would probably have to compete with Matt Slauson for the job."

This is one I hadn't heard before

Well, you could check the link, which describes her "credentials". She covers the Jets for CBS and Sirious, so it's not a BleacherReport.

I'm just passing it on, with a link.

Um, big contract? He'll retire after this season, it means nothing.

I am not bashing you. Just never heard of her.

I just see it as her opinion. I don't see them breaking the line up yet. But I could see this being Faneca's last year. If they trade him, I would be suprised. I would think we would hear rumblings of a contract renegotiation before just trading the guy.

I think we'd be in good shape even if Faneca retired. Brick and Mangold are in their 4th years.

Maybe, but remember what happened when they let Kendall go. Line continuity is important.

thats not really the same thing... well at least i hope not. if they trade him you have to believe they think turner or slauson are ready to step into a starting role. the whole kendall thing was awful because they didn't have anyone capable of replacing him.

Continuity is important but so is finding a capable replacement. Clarke couldn't even find a job as a 3rd string backup in the NFL a year later.

I don't see Faneca leaving this year. It also doesn't make much sense that someone would trade for someone with a huge contract who is supposedly (according to this woman) thinking retirement.

Exactly, they had better be damn sure the replacement was ready. Who was it last time, Adrien Clarke? He was horrible.

But again, I don't see this happening, maybe next year.

A shiver just ran down my spine when I read the name Adrian Clarke...

I'd rather watch my grandma do a three-way with a dog and a monkey than ever watch that SOB in a Jets uniform!

Why would Faneca retire if the Jets appear to be on the verge of Super Bowl contention?

    I call fake news.

She is doing her job. Keeping busy is all. Plus it's her own blog. Speculating off of facts on a big name. The Jets are hot. Off season fodder. Faneca is a huge part of this lines success. He may retire here but not soon. This team is looking to make a serious push for the SB. Did I just say that? The Jets are looking to push for a Super Bowl birth? And I believe it? Goodtimes.

I'll never be able to confidently say that after '99.

This team would beat the '99 team head to head. I call at least three sacks and a couple of picks on Intercepteverde.

Maybe we let TJ go because he didn't want to cooperate with the Coaches having Shonn Greene start.
