Now despite him almost causing us to lose to SD in the playoffs two seasons ago. Has anyone noticed that he seems to be our "dirty" player on defense? Sometimes the coaches send him in and he will do the most blatent penalty to what appears to be a designated target.

I'm not complaining at all. In fact, I'm a Florida State Football fan. Back in the 90s we always used our non-scholarship players to do some pretty dirty stuff.

    I love football!

Barton's a moron, and as abyzmul (I believe) said, he should be fined for that hit.

Enforcing on the field is on thing. Barrel-rolling into a guy's head, while he's down, out of bounds, is stupid and deadly. Much worse than what Zach Thomas did to Coles, and I was incensed about that.

He's more or less our Enforcer on defense and that's not a bad thing to have: a guy to be watched out for and feared, a la Rodney Harrison.

...a man who also happens to be one of the dirtiest players in the NFL.

I'll give you an enforcer: Eric Smith vs. Wes Welker, Week 16 @ MIA. Clean and violent.

LOL, if by enforcer you mean idiot than I agree he (Barton) is most definitely an enforcer.

The only problem I see with him is if he is to do something to Brady this coming week then look for full retaliation against Pennington.

He was benched for two series after the penalty.

Mangini read him the riot act on the way in "stupid penalty to take" and left him on the bench for the rest of the series and the following series. Then he let him back in.

I was wondering when Mangini sat him how long the sit was gonna be. The answer was: just long enough to make the point without pissing him off or hurting the defense.

Mangini has this feel for the interpersonal side of the game that is really amazing. It's something that Belichik lacks but Parcells has in spades.

The penalty was a stupid one and he was pulled of the field, briefly. However, Barton's play against the run has improved tremendously over the course of the season. And, its a good thing. Brad Kassell has looked terrible all season. Kassell probably played less today on D than in any game this season. Every time he came in they ran right at him for an average of 6 yds or so.

Barton may not be your favorite player, but since Schlegel either isnt ready or isnt going to be given a shot, you've got to root for him to stay healthy for the sake of the run defense.

Barton is the hardest hitter on the Jets right now. He adds a vital element to their defense and until they get another bricklayer they need him.

Barton was on the bench for quite some time after that dumb hit. Good job Mangini.

If the team lacks one thing on defense, bricklayer is the perfect word. While Bartons play was stupid, successful teams all have the "Lynch" type players. Not saying the Jets need more dirty players..but hard hitters. Smith is a guy to keep an eye on in the future...I like this kid.

I was livid when Barton gave that extra shot for no reason what so ever. The play is dead, the man is already down and out of bounds, no need to give an extra what for on that run.

Barton deserved the benching. Now I will agree that we need him against New England, but he has to stop with those un-necessary Roughness calls or it's going to cost the Jets a possible upset in Foxboro.

We don't need another bone head stunt like what he did in San Diego.

I was not at the game, but Rich Cimini said in the NY DAiLY NEWS this morning that he was benched for one series.
