I'd like to see Barlow play a drive or two Friday....and get a lengthy workload in Game 4, when he knows more of the playbook and what not.
I don't know how comfortable I am with Barlow playing this week. Definitely game 4, but this week is taking an awful risk. If you put him in with the first team, you risk the top QB on a botched block. If you put him on 2nd or 3rd teams, you risk his health. Let him have the extra time to get ready for the games that count.
The simple solution there is to put him in for one quarter with the first team and take him off the field when you're planning to run plays that involve complicated blocking schemes. The only way for Barlow to get ready for the regular season is to get game action and he should have more than one game to do it.
I think he should get SOME time on the field this week... its just a question if it is 1 drive or 1 quarter
Give him some garbage time running to get his legs going. Otherwise give one final good look at the RB depth we have to figure out who's his number two and or change of pace back.
I totally agree, this is exactly what the coaching staff should do. That way you get Barlow some quality runs and get to evaluate his skills, and don't risk the qb on a blown blocking scheme.
He SHOULD definately play. RB is not rocket science plus he's been practicing all pre-season. 1) take the ball from the QB. 2) run like hell. Not rocket science.
good point but, vision is everything, especially when you dont have the best line. and without knowing the playbook you wont know where to look for holes or what LB's will most likely be getting a free release. but aside from that, I still agree. Its a very natural position, and he needs to get used to this team and get his reps before week 1
