has anyone else noticed that about 95% of the mock drafts out, they have us taking KeKe Mingo? Why? we don't need another DE, the last two years we took Wilkerson and Coples, these two guys are going to be monsters.

I question how these people to their mocks. do they not look up our needs? sure we need a pass rusher, but adding Mingo just doesn't make any sense. if anything we take Jarvis Jones or Manti Te'o, we need LB help, BADLY.

Surely that can't be somebody's real name?

I think its pretty obvious, Mingo will be an OLB in the NFL.

He's the exact size of a typical 3-4 OLB, while Coples and Wilkerson were 290-300.

Coples and wilk would be DT in a 43 defense. Pace and Thomas are both converted 43 ends playing OLB in our system. Even with the 34 becoming more popular at NCAA level many of the players drafted to play OLB a system like ours are going to be converted ends with the athleticism to play in space.

I've always thought of Coples is a better inside player. I'm not sold as Coples ever being successful at 3-4 end.

As far as Mingo, "BUYER BEWARE", he has been at very best average this season. Any player that is invisible for a good part of this year is going to be a non-factor in the pros.

I feel the same way about Mingo, I felt about Gholston 5 years ago before the Jets drafted him. Gholston was very productive in College, but there were 2 major problems I clearly noticed.

Gholston was a one-trick pony pass rusher (zero coverage skills), one play to get to the QB, vs weaker O-lineman.

Also, Gholston had no fire or desire to improve his play in College and always wasn't part of the team, he was a loner.

The one game I focused on mingo this year I kept thinking I was watching Maybin part 2. He has a good speed rush.... And that's it. He lacks the power to set the edge and did not have multiple moves to get to the QB. I'm not saying he could not be coached up, but I have a hard time seeing him as an every down player in this type of defense.

Regarding Barkevious Mingo, - let me put it this way.......NO.
About as 1 dimensional as Aaron Maybin. Relays on speed to get around the Tackle. Nothing else. If I were an offensive coordinator playing the JETS, I would run at him on every play.

I should have read your post before putting up mine.
I was so eager to slam down the Mingo idea, I didnt read anyone else's.

    Great minds think alike.

VanderbiltJets gave you walter and one of the guys at NFL draft scout ( CBS's site) has him to us as well. They do a decent job of plugging need into the teams pick, but missing on the style of player the coaching staff looks for alot.

I've noticed a lot of drafts having us take Mingo as well. He's a smaller OLB who is pure speed not much else, don't think it will translate well to the Pros. Jarvis Jones is the best pick for us as for as OLB goes but he will most likely be gone before we pick, even though we suck. Wouldn't mind Werner from Florida state if he's there.

I second everything that has been said about Mingo this year, I watch every LSU game. I love the guy but he hast produced I dont know if the loss of Brockers is bigger than anticipated but he hasnt been playing the same

Frankly I would prefer Sam Montgomery, probably not as good an athlete nor as good as a linebacker but has been more productive, more well rounded, and has a non stop motor

I liked Werner but he seems to have disapeared as the season wore on. I am really starting to like the idea of Chase Thomas or Khaseem Greene in round 2 but I would prefer Thomas. Greene is a bit of a tweener as he started his career as a safety. I watched the FSU/Florida game but the guy who impressed me on the FSU D was Cornelius Carradine, the guy was a monster.

I'd really like to pick up a second 2nd round pick. But I suspect that will only be possible if we draft in the top 10 or 11 spots. Or we get lucky and someone drops that someone behind us really wants. This team needs too much help this year for one player to make a real difference, regardless who that player is.

Almost every mock out there has us drafting Mingo.

They all follow the herd to the slaughter.

I saw one site that had us taking Luke Joeckel. I can't remember what one, it was around pick 12 too. if he's still on the board by 12, I would take him without hesitation.
