Anybody else thinking about going to Baltimore, or has even been to Baltimore before? I was thinking about going with my cousin, stupidly, ( I have class at 10 am the next day in New Jersey) and its a night game. But, he will drive back and maybe I can catch some shuteye. Its not the most convienant being a night game, but you can make excuses all your life, gotta have some fun. Im prob going to stay over Saturday night into Sunday. So I've been to Baltimore for a Mets game at Camden Yards but Im wondering what the tailgating scene is like down there. Its supposed to be good, but Im looking for any firsthand knowledge. Ill prob sign up on a ravens board and pretend Im a ravens fan and try and get an idea as well.
i went 4 years ago...it was a good experience inside the Stadium ..not sure on the tailgating. Fans on the whole were okay and providing the usual rules of keeping your mouth shut are kept to then you should have a great time.
The Ravens fans we encountered in our own Upper Deck a year ago were totally off the charts aggressive... just a warning. I'm not saying all Ravens fans are going to be that way in their own stadium and maybe it's just the "travelling crews" that are the most obnoxious, but we were surrounded by drunken, out-of-control lunatics looking for any excuse at all to get it on. There were 4 of them in front of my son and I and it got to the point where it really interfered with my enjoyment of the game... "enjoyment" until I realized we'd lose, but you know what I mean. Four guys with no shirts on, screaming obscenities and openly mocking every single Jets fan walking by, pounding their seats, standing up on the seats, making aggresive moves toward anyone with a comment. It was as if they owned the fucking stadium. And Security was nowhere to be found. I was going to say something and my son stopped me because it was only the two of us and he probably didn't want anything to happen to his dad. I've been in fights where I've been outnumbered and it's not that bad really but I ain't gettin' any younger either and two agains four is exactly what these asholes were probably looking for. Not saying this is going to happen to you down there if you're wearing green, but just watch your back. Baltimore has some pretty sick, classless fans.
Been there. Weird parking arrangement where you have a numbered spot that you have to find. If you get there late everyone has their chairs in the middle of the road and they have to move to let you by because you have to park in spot 104. As you go by with the NY plates they all make comments like....'Thanks for ruining a good time'! You get out of the car and the lot smells like crabs. They dump them on bridge tables and everyone has a hammer and they are bashing the crabs and butter is flying everywhere. We made friends and by the end of the tailgate we were drinking purple shots of something with them. Some dude was mad at me because the Knicks stole Earl Monroe in 1973. True story. He was still pissed off. Good people though. Serious football fans once the game starts. Everyone is in their seat at kickoff. Not a soul leaves early. Like anywhere......if you have a decent seat and keep your mouth shut you're fine. I don't know about sitting up in space as a visiting fan because I would never in a million years do that anywhere.
If the Gods are fucking you, you find a way to fuck them back. It's Baltimore, gentlemen...the Gods will not save you.
I went a for the game 4 seasons ago as well (Or as I like to call it, the fucking McCairens game). I was down for the whole weekend and aside from the occasional friendly ribbing at bars Saturday night, I found the Baltimore fans to be pretty cool. There was one total doucher in my section that felt the need to scream J-E-T-S Suck Suck Suck (Wow none of us have ever heard that original chant) every time the Ravens scored, finally I just stood up and said "Thank you for pointing out that we are losing, and suck. We have sucked for the last 40 years". He then had nothing to say in rebuttal. At that point the entire section applauded me (apparently the regulars in the section hated the guy). This same guy was also so drunk he slept thru the entire second half. Tailgating is crazy down there. I stayed in a hotel within walking distance of M&T Bank Stadium so all I did was walk thru to check it out. Word to the wise there are idiots in every stadium (some of our own included). If you bring it on yourself by shooting your mouth off expect to take it back.
Thanks for the advice, got more than I would've expected. Id love to skip the class but my workload at school is just too crazy to miss a class. Its stupid Im even going to go at all, but you gotta live. My cousin likes the Jets but isn't totally a fan, and he owns a Ray Rice jersey, so hes contemplating wearing it just so we can get along better. I originally told him that wasn't an option but it may work out in my favor. We'll see. Thanks again guys.
