I'm surprised no one has talked about this matchup at all. The Chargers seem like the perfect team to run 5-10 wildcat plays on. Leaky against the run and not the greatest against the pass either. And Brad Smith is a game changer. When he finds an opening he is gone. Between our running game, play action and BSmith I think we have them on their heels all day.
Before anyone else comes in to say it, I'll just do it to get it out of the way.. Brad Smith should throw it on Sunday!!!
Agreed, give it another shot this game. Chargers haven't seen it as much this year. They played Miami week 3 and Cleveland week 12, and since Cribbs had nice rushing numbers against them on 4 carries, I imagine it's at least a little successful.
I disagree, at least not early on. I think we can run down the Chargers' throats. I don't think we need to get that cute. Line up, and pound the football down their throats.
We need to cut Brad Smith. The only reason he's on the team is because of Schotty's love affair w/him.
Brown and Williams put up 150 yds on them in a loss. But Henne didn't do crap and Miami's secondary stunk it up all day. We have much more than Miami. We have 2 legit rb's PLUS a wildcat qb who can run and was a legit passer in college. I say break out every trick in the playbook and shock the world.
Smith has had a good 2nd half to the season...he is also a big plus on special teams. Wright and Smith have earned their spot on the roster, even if its a small piece.
This. Until their 4th string NT and company can prove they can matchup against our O.Line, we should be calling run after run after run.
i agree thats theres no reason to get cute, but i dont think b. smith throwing out of the cat is that cute ... i read somewhere that there have been options to throw on a few cat plays this year, and smith hasnt. that shows me that hes not going to get cute with the ball unless someone is wide open ... plus if we throw it out of that formation early in the game, they will have no idea what is coming evertime we give smith the ball ... i say just give b. smith the option once or twice
Last week's wrinkle was misdirection and play action roll out. I think this week's wrinkle is gonna be a few tweaks to the wildcat which may include some pass plays for Mr. Smith
honestly guys, it depends on the fronts we see. the reason brad smith did so well against the bengals the first time was because he was in on 3rd down and often, the bengals d was in the nickel. the nice thing is, he's a capable 3rd receiver, so no one knows if he's coming in to receive or run. we should be able to run, though, and if they start bringing one or two safeties in the box, sanchize finally knows to throw quick slants to our receivers or keller after a "missed" block.
I wish people would stop calling this the Wild"insert college name here". Smith is a QB. He is running the option. Enough already.
Exactly what I was thinking the other day. He is a QB. Would it still be considered wild cat? He is listed as WR though so maybe u can make a case for it.
 That's exactly what I told the Finsdude who claimed that it's a major part of our offense now after we bashed the Fins for doing it.... We've had the Option here since Brad was a JET!
Obviously, if the run game is working, why bother changing a thing? But if its average, then something like this can spark the offense.
I disagree with this. The option could be a part of our gameplan, but I just don't need to see B-Smith throwing the ball unless we're really struggling.
