Let's face it, the Oline is this team's achilles heel....no running game...and Sanchez is getting pounded....however, how do fix this in Week 4 facing two of the toughest teams in the NFL (Ravens and Pats) ....and with your All Pro center Mangold injured? Wayne Hunter is killing us, yet I don't know what other Oline options are available....any solutions???

What has happened to the O-line? Last 3 years it was great and so far this year it has been dreadful.

For starters we woody retired and also we are a year older. Add the lockout in (aka time for the o-line to gel) and there you go. And it's not just us...bears and eagles have horrible o-lines as well that were bad last season and appear to be the same or worse.

I keep hoping because it's the same personnel that we had for the end of last year that it will play like it did last year. But 3 games, and the answer is no so far.

Unless Ducasse is making a lot of strides in practice, or that Schlauderaff guy we traded for is good, we have nobody particularly promising waiting in the wings.

I expect we see better line play at some point. The jets do have a very complex blocking scheme most of the time but we will need mangold back at 100% before we see any real improvement.

I don't think hunter really killed us today, the line as a whole didn't play well and we had a few miscommunications that i doubt we would have seen with mangold making the line calls.

    Hunter is a RT only.

Tuner can't play on the outside.

Ducasse would be no better than Hunter at best.

If there is a bookend RT in the first round next year and he falls to the Jets, you take him. I can't believe Hunter can't play like he did last season.

I also wonder if Moore's hip is bothering him.

This OL needs to get its toughness back and that it smacked people in the mouth, not the other way around.

I can see him making a return next week, just to give the presence to the OL again.

Lol an undrafted free agent as your starting center for 1 3/4 games /thread.

You saw protection breakdowns all night that most likely never happen with Mangold.

Besides this game is on the defense.

Lack of TC and OTAs has taken a toll on a ton of O-Lines. That's probably a reason why the League is such a muddle of mediocre-looking teams.

The loss of Woody was way bigger than most people realized. Woody was an elite player, one of the best in the NFL. Hunter is average at best. So now instead of just one average player (Slauson) and pretty much 4 excellent guys, we now have 3 excellent players, and 2 average ones.

Then you have one of the 3 great ones, Moore, coming off an injury, I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't 100% and it's affecting his performance.

I don't buy the offseason as an excuse for a team like the Jets, that had pretty much all the same players coming back, in the same offense, same scheme, same everything. They should be ahead of the game if anything.

Slauson = average + always the guy that gets the "false start" penalties... at least doesn't give highways to the pass rush anymore.
Baxter = undrafted rookie in his first game, not his fault.
Moore = 30 yr old guy coming back from hip surgery on a shortened off-season.
Hunter = 1st year as a starter at 30 yrs old.

    +

We don't run jumbo TE sets anymore (with Hunter & Turner), we use regular TEs now.

NO RUN GAME AND NO PASS PROTECTION

I won't be surprised if Ngata kills Sanchez next week.

Let's plug Ducasse in there. It's not like anyone's going to get hurt.

Woody retirement really has this team hurting. With Mangold out, there are two major weaknesses on the line. Unfortunately, trades are unlikely in the NFL so the Jets are just going to have their whole season dealing with the lack of depth on their O-Line this season.

There's nobody worth signing that can make an impact on the Jet O-Line.

In answer to the original question, no.

We drafted for mostly defense and have seriously neglected the OL once again.
