One thing that I have found remarkable in the Cutler/McDaniels situation is that here is yet another young "genius" from Belichick's coaching tree who walks into his first NFL coaching job and thinks nothing of alienating a productive veteran. Talk about brass balls.

But McDaniels is not the first. He reminds me of Mangini, the way he came in and promptly dispatched perennial Pro Bowler Kevin Mawae and then allowed the Kendall situation to sour unnecessarily over $1million dollars.

NFL owners hire Belichick disciples hoping they'll bring in a little of that Patriot magic and Belichick smarts...so far however, it seems the only thing being passed along is Little Bill's arrogance.

i concur they are quite a crew of tools. then again they learned from the best and if it were not for certain things happening he would still be a d coordinator.

this is something i've noticed too, and i've always wondered: i wasn't old enough, or as into football, when Belichick coached the Browns. Was he this arrogant, and annoying then? Hell, I don't even remember his time as Jets' DC, was he this annoying then? As much as Belichick annoys the hell out of me, I grudgingly respect him as a great head coach. And even if his attitude sucks, and I think he is an asshole, he at least now has the record, and rings, to validate that attitude. But did he always have this, or at least always express it? Cause at least these two "disciples" seem to think you can be an arrogant prick (I liked Mangini, but still felt he was too high on himself) without having actually accomplished anything...

I just got tired of Mangini after a while, I really cant see myself getting tired of Rex Ryan because I've loved his 3-4 Defense for years now and Im a HUGE fan of the 3-4 Defense. Steelers, Ravens, NE...They been the teams winning as of late, yeah the Giants got one in with the 4-3 because of a great D-Line but I just get pumped up about 3-4 D's and thats the ONLY reason why I supported Mangini...I liked the additions of Jenkins, Pace, Harris and understood the trade of Vilma but I just got tired of his B.S and HATED the way he addressed the QB situation.

Also...I hated having Teddy Atlas in the locker room to "Pump these guys up" Why not bring in a guy like Mike Ditka or Dick Butkus or someone like that? True NFL warriors. I just hated that he was turning into a gimmick head coach and I had enough of BB vs Mangini hand shakes @ the 50 yard line

just an FYI, I learned this a few days ago, Atlas has ties to the Jets front office that go beyond Mangini. I'm not sure what the history is with the two sides but he still gets the scoops and stuff.

Although my source about the Jets being the front runners for Cutler who heard it at Atlas' event was terribly wrong... but maybe the Jets were one of the top teams 3 days ago.

anyway - BB's tree sucks balls. No one has done well because none of them seem to value the QB position minus Weis.

To be fair Romeo Crennel is one of the most even-tempered and humble guys in the coaching universe. He is also the guy who actually had experience coming out of the gate from New England to his first head coaching gig.

I think Mangini and McDaniels are both suffering from a little too much ego melded onto a lot too young and inexperienced to be doing the job they're doing at the moment. And yes, I think Belichik is very arrogant and probably looks for that quality in the people beneath him. He got his start under a very arrogant guy also.

Other than the fact they have worked for him, what possible qualifications do they have to label them geniuses?

i think what it really shows is just how much of that franchise's fortunes are the result of bb himself, and not the underlings...

love him or hate him, he is the man on that franchise, along with that qb he lucked into...

just think, if parcels hadn't screwed bb over, he might still be with the jets!!!

Reminds me of the time when my mom was watching a game with me in 2007. She (not a football fan really) looked over and said "Mangini reminds me alot of Belichick, except for the winning." Then just walked away. True story.

The OWNER called Cutler 10 times.... who is the arrogant one here?
If your boss called you 10 times and you didn't return the call, you would deserve to be fired too.

    Totally agree,

the difference with BB, is he won first - earned the respect.

Mangini/McDaniels came in demanding the same respect BB gets without having done anything as HC...I'm speaking predominantly about Mangini of course.

i still find it hilariously funny that mcdaniels came in and ended up driving away the broncos' super-talented, young, and athletic franchise QB in jay cutler all because he tried getting the insanely overrated, insanely mediocre, "can't touch jay cutler in terms of talent" matt cassel because it was "his guy".

what i also find it funny is that the demand for cassel from other teams came after that game where he threw for 400 yards against us. people look at the stat lines and say "whoa, 450 yards, matt cassell had a great game" but it really wasn't the case......all in all he really didn't even play that well.....we just let him amass basically all those yards with short dumps down the middle to open guys--which really wasn't hard because mangini and sutton were employing that pussy ass 3-8.......if anyone remembers, when we were pressuring cassell in the 1st half, he had a hard time even throwing a spiral--he was throwing these wobbly ass pussy passes the whole half.

    and for that...i'm sorry denver.

    BINGO! There's your answer.

Many years ago, while Bill Parcells was our HC, I entered the gate early so I could watch the warmups, something I'd do often. I liked to do that with my kids and we all got a kick out of it. My seats are in the Mezz, but we'd go into the Lower Level before the game and go right up to the first row (they used to let you do that before the games back then)... now they scrutinize your tickets and don't let you into a section other than your own.

But the thing that sticks in my mind about Belichick during that time was how good a COACH he was under Parcells. At about the 30, in front of what must have been Section 127 (directly below my seats), here was BB working with the DBs before the game... and I mean WORKING them. He had them running sideways in front of him, and he was personally firing bullets at them while they were running laterally, to simulate an INT. This young coach was constantly barking at them throughout and actually COACHING THEM, correcting them, making them do it over, getting them back in line. He worked the shit out of those guys. In fact, I was extremely upset when we were unable to land BB as our HC after the complete Parcells debacle unfolded. Belichick was clearly perhaps even a better coach than Parcells, IMO.

Enter copy machine loader Eric Mangini, who lands the defensive job with BB. It's almost like the old joke with Lloyd Bensen in the political debates: "I knew Bill Belichick, Senator, and you're no Bill Belichick."

Crennel was the only true COACH to come out of the BB system, the rest are wanna-bees and bullshitters who think they've got coaching abilities, Mangini first and foremost.

Cutler may well be a prima donna but Matt Cassel threw for 21 TDs in the same offense that Brady threw 50 TDs with the year before. Most of the people reading this could have registered a few TDs just by throwing the ball up in Randy Moss' direction. And yet McDaniel preferred Cassel to Cutler, insane.

Cutler also flies by the seat of his pants and makes great plays sometimes, but just as often he makes bad throws (18 ints). Sounds like someone familiar?

The Broncos want a QB who can run an offense, read defenses, and play in a system. Cutler is the latest in the line of QBs who always just relied on being able to throw the ball hard (Bledsoe).

We can debate this all night, but we'll see this fall. And I'll be the 1st to admit I was wrong if Cutler leads the Bears to glory on his arm.

McDaniels tried the Parcells approach and said "the player" during his press conference the other day.

That doesn't work in this situation. He sounded foolish.
