Yeah. Kind of like it. but my difference is I don't follow baseball at all. Only watch a few innings during play offs. And whichever New York team is in the playoffs I root for that team. Same goes for hockey and basketball. My only team is Jets. Other sports is in backseat and I don't have a team and I support all NY teams.
Oh OK that explains it because when it comes to baseball you can’t be both in New York.... my grandparents lived in the Bronx on Shakespeare av .....my formative years I lived in West Harlem I could see the Yankee stadium lights from my window ......Yankees were my first love followed by Joe Namath as a kid growing up I was a fan of his before I was a jet fan then the Knicks..I love Clyde Frazier and Captain Willis Reed
I was born in the Bronx, and started following the Yankees at a very early age. Joe Willie and the Jets were getting exciting just at the time that I discovered football. So, it's Yanks and Jets for me. I used to be a major Knicks' fan too, but I don't follow basketball anymore.
Papa Brooklyn Dodgers was your team. They moved to LA and you still remained a Dodgers fan. How does it feel? I wonder if I will stay a Jets fan if Jets ever move.
Brook, I was very young when they moved. Once they ended up in LA they really had a great run in the 60’s& 70’s. Last year they finally won again, first time since 1988. Hopefully they will repeat this year. I really can’t see the Jets moving, they make a lot of money. Truly, I do wish they had returned to NY, in their own stadium. I did have season tickets at Shea. Although it was a dump, was OUR dump.
Football is the one sport where I can sort of underatand a New Yorker rooting for Pittsburgh, Dallas, Miami, etc. But for baseball? Never understood it. Fuck Da Bums. And the Giants.
I’m a yankee fan, but I know had the dodgers stayed in Brooklyn, I would have been a dodgers fan. The move was well before my time. But, as a kid in the 80s , I had a fascination with the Brooklyn dodgers. Read as many books as I could find, collected mostly 50s dodgers cards and stuff. Strange that I didn’t go to the Mets, but I still root for the Mets as well.
Red Sox was mets, but the unjustness of the 73 world series where harelson was safe at home made me swear off baseball and turn to ... the Jets... for a quick 2 years or so got reinterested when my father was rooting for the Yankees rival Red Sox in the 75 series...
