Ok, so. We play the Pack really tough this weekend, Sam again looks great, some of the young guys look really good, the defense is stout but we lose on a fluke play or two, maybe a phantom call—or better yet, bad clock management or poor coaching decisions? Further cementing Bowles' exit. 49ers, Cards, Raiders and Jax all win. And we are firmly in control of the number 1 pick. Go with me on this one. In addition, the Cheats win and because of other AFC games, they wrap up either the 3rd or 4th seed and nothing that happens in week 17 will change that—win or lose they are set. Are you rooting to beat the Cheats? Or rooting not to win and secure the first pick? And with that comes Bosa or a trade down (not outside the top 8-10 picks) for a king’s ransom to someone that’s dying to get one of the mediocre QBs coming out, or someone else they desire. Load up on OTs and a center and a RB and a WR or 2. I know there are folks that are going to say you NEVER root to lose, especially against our hated rivals. But will that momentary and illusory feeling of joy and empty vindication trump what is best for the franchise over the next 5-7 years? I get it, it doesn’t matter if Mac is still doing the drafting but maybe not, and even still, would you not rather have more draft capital? And in every round we have a pick?
If beating the PATS fuks their playoff seeding..... then I hope they kick their ass! If the game means nothing across the board.... who cares? Losing would probably be better off long term..... but I'd still want them to beat up on Brady
I'd be more compelled to root for beating NE if we could actually spoil something for them by winning. But the way you've laid it out, the Pats have nothing to gain or lose in week 17. So meh. Tank it up. edit: yeah, what the stinkman said.
If the Patriots are set in stone at that point, I will be hoping for another Sam plays great but Jets lose by 1 score type of game. If by some fluke the Bills and Dolphins both win next week, I will be all in rooting for the Jets to spoil the cheats' party. Also if the Pats are set in stone, they probably rest Brady, so lets not hope for that.
I would understand the need to lose, I would still watch the game the same way and get mad, excited by the good /bad plays.
If the Bills beat the Pats, fuck draft position knock those fuckers out of the playoffs. Otherwise gun for the first pick I guess ... tho the Jets wont have to try very hard
Lose all the way to insure that Bowles & his CS, and hopefully Mac, are gone the moment the season ends.
Take the first pick. The Pats will no doubt lumber to the Super Bowl as usual whether they have home field advantage or not. Even if we somehow eliminated them from the playoff race, there would no doubt be some forgotten NFL rule from 1971 that determines that they get a bye to the AFC Championship game.
I look at it this way, if a loss secures a number one pick with trade back potential and allows jets to strengthen team because of said multiple picks and Jets can dominate AFC East for next 5 or 6 years which means send Pats home every year I’ll root for loss.
If beating the patty crooked’s holds no bearing on their playoff implications id rather play tough & lose much like this past game against Houston. If the patriots have something to play for though all bets are off.Go for the throat.
If we close out the season on a high note, that will make the job of HC much more attractive. Granted it will hurt our draft, but myself & probably most Jets fans will be feeling pretty good if we end the season with Sam playing well and kicking the asses of Patriots....when it really matters to the Patriots. I look at it as a win win situation. We either close strong & feel good going into next year with momentum or we get a higher draft pick. The perfect situation….Sam kicks ass defense sacks Brady 6 times ...but we lose the game, pretty much what happened vs. Texans.
I don't worry about the draft position that's the current and or future scout's/front office's job to handle. I doubt at this point anything can save anyone from the hatchet. If they are going to be gone they will be gone regardless how this season ends. As a Jets fan, I cheer for them to win every week regardless of current record.
