I think that Mike T has done an excellent job in the draft and free agency. This team SHOULD == as presently constituted have 11 wins.

Do they have to get fired together -- or can Mike T. fire his long time friend.

Historically in any sport, the GM always gets at least to fire 1 coach. Mr. T, has clearly brought the players in here. And love or hate the Favre move, he has given Mangini every opporunity to be successful.

I think the question isnt does tanny get fired to? but does tanny have the balls to fire Mangini? Tanny better still be GM come this offseason. Coach and coordinators needs to be changed, but Tanny is one of the best in the business, absolutely no reason he should be let go.

I agree. Tannenbaum has done his job. They were put in a position to win. You cant lose to SF, Oak, Sea.

Having said that -- I think coaching changes should not be done at the drop -- if Cowher is not available -- Id be happy with a change in coordinators.

They gambled with Favre and lost big time.

I dont agree. Pennington was done here. And certainly no one on this site -- can say they wanted him == except UNC and a few select others. I like Chad -- but to me -- it was (and is) a no brainer.

It didnt work out. He has been awful for the last few weeks. Bad decisions. Bad throws.

I think the credit for drafting well should go to the Director of College Scouting Joey Clinkscales. I doubt they would have given him that job title if it wasn't his real job. As to Tannendumb doing well in FA, while the Jets were $30 million under the salary cap he refused to bump Kendall's salary from $2M to $3M. He gave Faneca $8M a year and he's not pass blocking. He gave Chad away for free, thus turning a division rival into a contender overnight. He traded a 3rd round pick for Favre and paid him $13M even though he's not better than Chad, who was making $6M. He signed Bubba Franks who sucks. But worst of all, he hired Mangini to be coach.

    I agree with this.

Joey is highly underrated by us the fans because he isn't in the spotlight, but other front offices know about him and he was once rumored to be lured somewhere else. I forget which franchise though.

I dont think he'll fire him until Woody tells him to, or they have a falling out.

A gigantic part of your post involves hindsight, and can we get over Kendall already? He wouldn't of had saved 2007

It wasn't hindsight for me. I knew Mangini was a joke and I knew the drafting was good because of Clinkscales. Tanny is a nerdy numbers guy, never played football at a high level. Clinkscales played college ball at Tenn and 2 years in the NFL. He's the one making the drafting work.

Parcells tried to hire away Clinkscales in the offseason, so Tuna likes him.

I think Tannenbaum has done at best an average job at this point. Maybe a lot worse than that considering that the Jet's chances to win a Super Bowl next year aren't likely to be any better than they have been going into any season since 1999.

He had a top 4 pick and a top 6 pick in the time he's been GM. He had an owner willing to open up the wallet and really spend, both to retain players and to bring in new ones. He had a clean slate on the coaching staff with one great holdover in Mike Westhoff. Despite all of this the Jets are on the same treadmill they've been on since Vinny went down in the first game of the 1999 season nearly a decade ago: not good enough to run with the big dogs on a consistent basis, not bad enough to force a total flushout of the system.

I hate many of the moves he has made, mainly because they were aimed at 2006-2007-2008 and they brought us not enough return for the pain we are likely to get in 2009-2010-2011. People can disagree with my interpretation, they always do, but I'll bet you I'm right.

    Nice post as usual Br4dw4y5ux.

Both of these guys are fully responsible for not getting us a Super Bowl ring in 3 seasons.

Adding players like Revis, Harris, D'Brick, Mangold, and whoever else has been a huge detriment to this franchise. Those guys just don't have "it" as a players, and with it...what is there? Those guys aren't going to do us much good in the future, those were done specifically to fix major holes that season...which few teams use as a draft strategy.

look, over the time T and Mangini have been with the Jets, there has been a friendship that has been developing between the two, however, that friendship must not overshadow the lack of focus and consistency with this team

I hope Mangini and Tanny are connected to the hip. Jets fans don't seem to know good young talent until it smacks them in the face anyway. Maybe fans will learn that you don't just fucking magic a good team together.

Anyway, I doubt Tannenbaum is actually going to fire him...and anyone who thinks Tanny should be or could be fired is telling good jokes. So I guess we'll wait and see when it's actually time to get rid of one of them if it ever comes to that.

    So fire Sutton.

Keep Schotty, unless you can name 5 potential offensive coordinator candidates available. Please don't say Brian Billick.
