http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=6699864 Clayton wrote an article, basically listing 5 teams whom will benefit, and 5 who will be uhhh fucked from the new CBA. Dunno where he is getting this $120 number from, but if that is true, that will suck. BUT da heck is he talking about? I thought we had $100 million on the books for 2011 right now. NYJetsCap.com is not official, but this guy knows his shit. http://nyjetscap.com/salary11.html According to NYJetsCap.com the Jets have $101,901,985 for 2011 right now. Not sure, if this includes dead money from recently cut players.. I have though heard that cut players/dead salary $ #'s will not effect the 2011 CBA. If those numbers indeed do carry over, the Jets may have some issues, and the talent level will not match the talent of the 2010 season. But we do have this balding middle aged man. So basically is John Clayton lost, or are these accurate numbers?
Can you guys stop posting these pictures of dudes making out and prancing in parades? I'm getting boners at work it's awkward..
Depends on how much Harris counts for the franchise tag (he probably gets us to 110) and whether Gholston/Woody/Jenkins/Taylor count (jetscap thinks their 2011 dead money gets accelerated to 2010 but no one knows that for sure), but if they count towards 2011 that's about $11 million, which gets the Jets to about 121. Not sure where he gets the last 2 million. Also the rookies add about 3 million.
http://www.thejetsblog.com/2011/06/27/salary-cap-update-dont-worry/ & http://www.thejetsblog.com/2011/06/21/navigating-free-agency-pre-emptive-strikes/ The first one answers your question pretty well. Sorry I said jetsnation insted of thejetsblog!
that is an outstanding article. ill post a chunk of the article that basically dispels Clayton's cap #. if the dead money doesn't carry over, we could be in better shape then most thought. plus, if we get sanchez to spread his $ around to another year perhaps, we could probably bring back both WR's.
I keep hearing $140+ million. Clayton never has a good thing to say about the Jets anyway. He would love for the Jets to be in cap hell.
Where are you hearing that? I haven't seen a number remotely close to that from any serious NFL reporter. EDIT: The Jets nation stuff all depends on Gholston/Woody/Taylor/Jenkins not counting towards 2011, and, like nyjetscap, they don't have an actual public source saying that. I hope they're right but....
The NYJ will never have cap problems with Tannenbaum at the controls. He broke into the NFL as a cap specialist for crying out loud.... The ONLY curveball you could throw at the guy would be a new CBA. Therefore, there IS reason to be concerned, but not overly. Look at last offseason: Pretty much everyone, including myself, believed we wouldn't add anyone because of the Final 8 rule and our splurging the previous year. Low and behold, we land Holmes, LT, Taylor, Cro, etc. We will be fine. Fuck John Clayton.
The Jets will be fine regarding the cap number, unless its down to 115. Then plenty of teams will have an issue. its nothing to be worried about.
My dick is so big, it spans the space-time continuum. I'm raping your great great grandmother right now, great great grandson.
No one knows anything yet. With the owners paying more into benefits to cover retired players as well a new formula must be used to calculate salary cap. No way it would go backwards, why would the players or NFLPA agree to that? makes no sense at all, and Adam S. is yet to clarify this so I will wait until real numbers are reported to start worrying.
