Far as I know, he's still on the PUP list. There's even some question as to IF Martin ever plays again. The knee hasn't healed even after all this rest. If he's not careful, he could wind up like Earl Campbell.

Well, Today Cimini and Hutchinson are both reporting that the Jets are looking to aquire another RB but I choose to believe Newsday's Ken Berger.:)

    www.newsday.com

Martin's unusual absence has fueled speculation about his future. But a person familiar with the team's thinking said yesterday it appears that Mangini is simply trying to spare Martin, coming off December knee surgery, the punishment of his grueling camp.

"He is beating the hell out of his players," said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity. "Curtis is an elder statesman. He's leaving him out of it."

Mangini appears to be cut from the Bill Belichick cloth in many ways, including his belief that players should practice only if they're physically able to practice fully. In New England, safety Rodney Harrison is coming off knee surgery and also is on the PUP list.

Very interesting. I posted Cimini's article in a new thread. I hope Berger has it right.

Curtis Martin is an icon.I hope his career isnt over.#28 Curtis "my favorite"Martin as Berman says it. Is 1 of the best players in Jets history and a fan favorite.

With the reports of us being interested in in Thomas Jones or Chris Brown something is up.

Obviously I hope for the safe return of him. I guarantee though, if he has to retire, we'll see him in HOF first year of eligiblity.

Sounds like somebody mouthed off to the coach and had to pay for it with a "conditioning test'. That usually means a few dozen laps and some push ups. Discipline. Did I mention I like this coach?

I'd rather curtis doesn't play this year. We have 4 RBs as it is, and I'm sick of "hand of to Curtis Martin, dives forward for a yard" plays all the time. I wanna see Washington and either Blaylock or Houston split the snaps each game.

Who knows what's up with him.

Some stuff says he's not going to be able to play this year and hint at retirement, other stuff acts like it isn't that bad and they just want to give him some more rest.

He's got more heart in him than alot of people in this league. I don't understand how he wouldn't motivate himself to get a few carries per game at the least.

I've heard similar reports - ranging from the Jets are after Thomas Jones - to Mangini is resting him to save him from the heat/hitting....hopefully more clarity comes soon

Curtis didn't get to be 4th all time by falling forward for a yard. His knee was brutally injured last year, and on top of it, the OL was awful due to injury and lack of depth. Curtis Martin is better then any other 2 RBs we have on this roster, and there is no doubt that the Jets are a better team with him then without him. If you think otherwise, you're flat out wrong.

I believe he is, or is close enough now that he will be come the start of the season.

People keep saying that the average RB putters out at 30. Curtis is anything BUT average. Healthy, he is without a doubt the best running back we have. His mere presense makes the team better.

Yes, he should get fewer carries this year, but we need this guy on the roster and on the field.

Curtis has probably the biggest heart of any athlete I've ever seen. I bet that he'd be out there practicing if it were up to him. Not necessarily a great thing either after last year. He's had a history of bearing the pain and soldiering on, but it is coming back to haunt him I think as he is getting older.

It is hard to know what is going on in Camp Mangini... maybe it is all a smoke screen or they are resting him. Maybe he really is broken. Really hard to know and we'll just have to wait and see how it plays out.

Believe me, when he practices, you will know about it. I'm thinking that is pretty big news this time of year.
