Baker has requested a trade from Arizona. He's a 5 time Pro Bowler and just 27 years old. Any thoughts trading for him. Thumbs up or down.
Whenever I see this guy's name mentioned I flash back to my childhood growing up on Staten Island. Two doors from my house lived the Buda family and they owned a bakery known as Buda Bakers. True story. A wonderful family, the daughter was my age and completely in love with me. She followed me around everywhere which was often an embarrassment when I wanted to play with my (male) friends. As a result, I didn't treat her very nicely at times. She grew up to be quite beautiful, so I'm still kicking myself. Her mother, a housewife, was an absolute saint. After my mother died when I was six, she became something of a surrogate mom, as did many of the moms on my block. As I look back I was lucky enough to grow up surrounded by wonderful people. So, yes, sign this beast. LOL. Actually, I think the Jets defense is pretty solid, so we don't need a Budda Baker and I'd rather see the money go to keep Williams happy.
Don't think we should allocate our money to the defensive side of the ball when we have our own guys to pay. Considering we want Rodgers and a strong OL, I say let's address Safety thru draft and find a gem in late rounds.
Funny! I grew up in NY, first Brooklyn but then Staten Island, where I did 8th grade through a couple years at Brooklyn College… Haven’t been there in a while as I moved to LA, and most of my friends have since moved also, many to Jersey… But to this day, I still consider Staten Island “home”…
Not at whatever potential price tag he wants. Rather have that money go to Q as someone mentioned earlier. Now if he wants to take a discount well then...
Never trade for somebody who wants to get paid when you have already have players on the roster who need to get paid. Part of the NFL equation is figuring out how to win without having a lot of guys get paid. Pissing off your roster by bringing in a guy who is getting paid doesn't help with that.
He's a nice player but he's probably looking for Jamal Adams money and the Cards looking for a Jamal Adams like return.
You also don’t trade for or pay safeties exorbitant amounts of money unless they forced a high percentage of turnovers. Baker has 9 forced turnovers in 3 years. That’s 1 every 5 games he’s played and really isn’t enough. He’s a really good player though.
Even then, you don't pay top of the market for free agents. C.J. Mosely was maybe the best inside linebacker in the NFL when the Jets paid top of the market for him. It just didn't matter because adding $15-20M a year players to your roster is not the way to win unless they are so impactful that you can put average players around them and win. The classic example of signing high impact free agents that worked were Deion Sanders and Reggie White. Both players joined teams that were one player away and both signed the huge contracts before the free agency/cap system was fully understood by the NFL. Ever since that time people have signed the guy they thought would put them over the top only to discover that nobody puts you over the top unless you were already over the top.
