This one we even traded up for a guy that has iron hands. Way to go scouting dept. Way to go NYJ FO/RR IMHO they are all totally incompetant. Now on my cut bubble list of hi draft choices is Coples & Wilson. Ducasse is already elsewhere so now U can see why this team is never a true contender but always a bottom feeder
Why would you drag Ryan into it when he made it apparent right after the draft that he wanted no part of him?
Coples has been far from special, but hopefully he can have a break out season this year, if not I'd look to trade him, while he has value
How many 2nd round picks has Belicheat cut early over the years? Off the top of my head I can think of Dowling, Cunningham, and Chad Jackson. Sometimes scouts are wrong and when they are you have to acknowledge it and move on. That's why Belicheat wants so many draft picks every year. Its also why Tanny's trade up policies ruined the team for years when they guessed wrong.
How convenient, you mentioned RR that had fuck all to do with it but not Tanny, who was at the helm masterminding our demise. Don't forget his parting shot, by bringing in the worst offensive coordinator ever with Sparano, as the last gesture of respect towards his mentor Purcell. If that was not bad enough then you envision cutting Coples , which is hysterical. Sorry Champ, but with this two liner thread you managed to bring your perceived insight about the Jets tenure to a new low.
Me either. Coples would be an awesome 4-3 DE and could even excel as a 3-4 DE. He wasn't suppose to be a OLB. He's still adjusting and has done a pretty good job so far IMO.
It's not all on the scouting department. The coaching staff have to take some heat for poor development of their players.
I'm not a Rex guy but I won't put this on him or Idzik. Tannenbaum left us with this guy and since he didn't pan out, he got cut. Shit happens. What worries me is the scouting dept. not really hitting any home runs lately on the offense. They all seem to have Rexivision when it comes to recognizing defensive talent (Kyle Wilson not withstanding) but when it comes to the offense? not so much. If there is one single area of the entire Jet Organization that is overdue for an Epic Enema, it's our Scouting Dept. It really, REALLY, needs to be revamped as soon as Idzik can get around to it or whomever is the Team President these days.
Coples is going to be a monster this year. Just wait. Hill on the other hand was a risky pick from the get go. Not many of us liked the pick, but we stood by it. Hill's agent saying he never got a fair shot here was a crock of BS. He had all the opportunities in the world, but even with his 4.3 speed he couldn't get open and when he did he dropped balls.
I would say Coples' window of opportunity has gotten a lot smaller with Hill's departure. It should serve notice that anyone can be cut or released. DP should also understand this new reality in JetLand.
Just because Coples isn't Michael Strahan in terms of pass rushing doesn't mean he's an ineffective player. He still played the position at a solid level, stays at home on plays, is a good tackler and can push tackles around in the run game. I think everyone would love for him to be the pass rusher we need but even if he isn't it doesn't mean that he's a bad player. No need to compare him to the blackhole that Stephen Hill was.
