The Jets have their second generational talent in as many decades in Quinnen Williams. He finishes with only one sack today but he absolutely fucking destroyed this game for the Patriots. He’s become a top 5-10 defensive player depending on how you rank them. Teams with players on that list usually make the playoffs. We need to retain him at all costs.
We have the two most important defensive positions (pass rusher and lockdown corner) covered, and I agree we need to keep both of them. Next year will be Quinnen's option year, so this is the perfect time to extend him while we can still take advantage of his personal risk aversion.
he is great but nothing on defense matters unless the Jets get a good QB - I'd trade him in a flash for a quality young QB prospect
who knows who'll be available next year - all it takes is a change in coaching regime, a fallout with a team, Jets just have to be ready to deal (and not get sucked into paying someone like Aaron Rodgers 30m+ plus for name recognition value only)
You just don't do that with a player like him unless it's an untenable situation where he doesn't want to stay. Without him, this defense gets a lot worse. Then we're just a bad team again.
The Broncos just tried to do that with their draft capital and they might be stuck with one of the worst contracts in NFL history that was likely a condition of the trade. You make Q retire a Jet and you make that happen this off-season.
Just sign Minshew. He'd jump at the chance to start here, and we'd get a 26-year-old top 20 QB with the potential to be top 10 for a bargain price who's a good fit for our scheme.
By allowing Zach to completely fuck up this playoff run, the Jet coaching staff is staring to look like they are a beta operation. Where have all the alpha male coaches gone? No need to bring in a big name QB who is going to fleece the team for his retirement nugget. Jets don't need another guy like Favre coming here and fucking things up at the QB spot even more. With this defense, a guy like Jacoby Brissett would work just fine. The problem with bringing in another QB is that they have to convince him that he might have to sit behind a bust like Zach.
you're wrong - nothing comes close to the impact the QB has - we could have an amazing defense but we aren't ever going to win on a regular basis without a good QB. A good young QB would enable us to stay competitive for a decade plus which is what you need to give yourself a chance at winning a SB Every team that has had consistent success in the last 20+ years has had a top 10 QB on their roster (except for the Ravens with Flacco).
anything would be better than what we have but we need a true franchise QB if we are to have long term success - if the Jags or Eagles thought that he was capable of being that then why did they draft 1st round QBs?
without a good QB we'll never be a good team and this team has shown it cannot sort the QB position itself
So let’s give up our best defensive player and two first round picks, so we can’t replace the defensive player, for a veteran QB that a team WANTS to get rid of for some reason. That reeks of Russell Wilson. Those trades usually don’t work for the team making it.
