http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2015/3/25/8289949/nfl-rule-changes-ineligible-receiver-ravens-patriots "the NFL announced multiple rule changes at the conclusion of the annual owners meetings in Arizona on Wednesday, on top of the safety-oriented rule changes that were announced Tuesday. Among them was a change to the eligible receivers rule, which was altered after a proposal from the Baltimore Ravens. The new rules say that an eligible receiver who reports as ineligible must line up within the tackle box. This rule is essentially in direct response to the playoff game between the aforementioned Ravens and the New England Patriots. The Ravens' team website was quick to post on the rule change, referring to the Patriots' usage of ineligible receivers as a "trick" they used against Baltimore. On three plays in their Divisional round win over the Ravens, the Patriots had five players on the line and made another player who was usually eligible on the play ineligible. New England managed to put up 41 yards on those plays, taking advantage of Baltimore's confusion on who they need to cover. The Ravens felt like they got a raw deal, but the rule is changed going forward. Now it should be very clear who is and is not eligible." is there any other team that has had more rules created because of greasiness, or just rules created on the fly to benefit them, then NE?
I find it ridiculous how NE can keep exposing these loopholes in the rules. Are they the only team that does their due diligence regarding these rules. I wish the Jets could find gray area in the rules and use it to their advantage.
hahaha... so, being smarter than the competition and coming up with plays within the current rule-book is greasy? I call it genius. Name a few of the rules created on the fly that have benefited the Patriots? If we can't beat em, we'll legislate em!!!
31 teams uphold the spirit of the rules and one seeks advantage in them and if that doesnt work well enough CHEATS-riots
It wasnt cheating, because it wasnt a rule. I hate the Patriots as much as the next guy, but if the Jets did the exact same move we'd be calling them brilliant.
But they didn't cheat. They legally found a loophole and kudos for that. It was a fantastic play at the time. Hate the pats all you want but doing stuff like this within the rules is part of what makes belichick such a good coach. When they do cheat lay it on by all means but in this case they didn't. It's what makes belichick so good in this respect. And I hate him as much as the next guy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Didn't say they cheated in this case but took unfair advantage of the rules and cheated by deflating the balls
Deflating the balls is completely irrelevant to the topic at hand. They didn't take unfair advantage of the rules, they took advantage of the rules. If the Jets had done it, we'd be praising them. It was a brilliant call by BB.
So basically the Ravens admit they are too dumb to count so they needed a new rule to make it easier for them. Dumbasses. Rest of the rules make sense.
Not created on the fly but the Pats pushed to keep headsets out of defensive players helmets, which forced them to continue using hand signals. That season was spygate and the next offseason the headsets were voted in as a result.
I'm sorry, I can't really "give props" to the guy that continually butt fucks my team. Fuck BB and his deflated balls...
I can see it now. "NFL rules committee has made it illegal to poison the visiting teams' meals following the Patriots poisoning of the NY Jets with salmonella when the Jets visited the Patriots in December". Said Beilcheck: "It wasn't cheating because there were no NFL rules against it. We always play within the rules. They didn't have to eat it".
Bill and Ernie have been devising loophole end a rounds since their hs/college days.....cheating over that amount of time comes naturally like taking your morning constitutional
