http://yankees.lohudblogs.com/2007/06/19/andy-phillips-returning-to-yankees/ Andy Phillips is versatile in the infield (played mostly 1B with Yankees, 2B in Scranton), is a good defender (much better than Phelps). In my opinion, it will probably by either Phelps, Basak, or Henn being sent down.
please let it be Phelps that is sent away. He is so worthless. I really hope we don;t go signing a 1st baseman. I like Cairo in that spot.
don't get your hopes up.. right around the trade deadline will be about the time Cairo gets exposed as not good enough to play everyday..
Form the Yankees web site: In order to create room for Phillips on the roster, the Yankees designated first baseman Josh Phelps for assignment. Phelps had beaten out Phillips for the job with a torrid offensive Spring Training, taking advantage of an extended opportunity created by Phillips' prolonged return to Birmingham, Ala., to be by his mother's side. But of late, Phelps had been struggling both offensively and defensively, Yankees manager Joe Torre said. Passed over as the starting first baseman after Doug Mientkiewicz was lost to injury, Phelps was batting .263 with two home runs and 12 RBIs in 36 games. bullshit. Phelps barely got a chance because Joe had to put his buddy Cairo in instead of Phelps. Phelps got a raw deal.
And when he did get in their he shit the bed. Cairo is a baseball player, albeit a very average one. Phelps used to be a hitter now hes not much of anything. Atleast Cairo can play all aspects of the game to some extent.
