Reported by Schefter and NFLN a couple of hours ago.

I can understand rationale for contract, but boy...Dalton has been underwhelming lately in the playoffs.

I laughed when I saw it. Im actually expecting a season similar to Schaubs season last year from Dalton. If that does happen, the whole Bengals organization will be under heavy fire for giving this guy anything.

this is a very reasonable deal. his cap hit doesn't even exceed 10 million until 2017. he's able to be cut that year as well.
Assuming they're good with him as starter for the next 3 seasons this deal is more than team friendly, plenty of space for AJ Green's new deal.

And its another incentive based deal, like Kaep's. I was concerned they were gonna do something stupid and inflate his price (and that of every there QB getting a deal), but no I think he'll be making an appropriate value (I'd have given him a little more)

seriously theres a 3 million dollar cap hit for a 6 year vet, this is a good deal.

great job tony, i didnt know the specifics but we all know that 6 years 115 million doesnt mean anything without the specifics. sounds like they made a wise decision that will be very cap friendly if it works out and wont sink the ship if it doesnt.

Yeah everybody will overreact when they see the dollar amount but it isn't a bad deal. Plus I get tired of hearing so and so "can't win in the playoffs". Until they do. Just because a guy doesn't do it immediately doesn't mean they can't or won't

Zero playoff wins and counting. How much does it exceed $10mil by in 2017, when he will have little or no value? How much are the Bengals held to Dalton when they want to part ways in 2017? 1-2 years, at best. Not that great of a signing IMO. This is a running QB league now. Dalton, is a statue.

good stuff Tony. the headline numbers are always about agents pounding their chests.

the details as you've explained make sense Bengals-wise.

I agree, and that's only done when people discuss QBs for some reason. Nobody says Calvin Johnson isn't a good WR because he hasn't won in the playoffs. It's the wrong way of looking at the QB position, placing too much emphasis on single games or things that are out of their control. Fortunately General Managers are getting smarter now then they used to be, I think.

They gave him a Sanchez extension. Bungles do it again.

Yeah. Matt Ryan "couldn't win the big game". Until he got to the NFC Championship where he actually played great but lost to the better team in the 49ers.

Peyton, has won when it matters most. Dalton, has not. Ever.

I'll retract some of what I said. IMO it is and always will be a "prove it" league. Dalton, proves he can play. It might be a nice contract for the Bengals for 1-2 years, but if they get nothing out of it are they stuck with him in year 3? The back half of his contract must have some serious $$ in it, if the first couple of years are under $10mil.

Pretty decent contract for Cincy. The big dollar amount is scary at first glance, but details, good deal

The main theme of the past 2 years is overpaying non elite QBs. Interesting. It is a team friendly deal, though.
