The guy has 8 sacks in his career and has not played for SIX years. He's too small to play end in the 3-4 (272 lbs) so unless they're looking at him to play outside linebacker I have no idea why they would even be talking to him. He hasn't played pro football for SIX years. What are the odds he does anything other than come into camp and pull something before he leaves? 1000-1?
The only risk in trying is that the Jets will devote attention to him when they really need all of their focus elsewhere right now. Bringing in a project is a huge strain on organizational resources because somebody has to keep track of the guy and know what's going on. Otherwise there's no point to bringing him in. And Wadsworth is a project no matter how you look at it. The last time he was in the NFL he caught some bad injury luck and instead of working through it he retired to enjoy the fruits of his #3 pick contract. Now maybe the money is running out and he's hungry again. Maybe that's good and maybe it's just a waste of the Jet's time and energy. We'll see what they do. If Mangini brings him in then I'll trust his judgement but Wadsworth is still going to mean zero until he starts producing. This is not a Vinny situation. This guy has been in the wilderness for 6 years. Odds against him are enormous.
He has been successful off the field, so this is not simply a case of a player looking to get paid. Andre is hungry to play football. He was on the verge on coming back a few years ago when he hit another set back (achilles).
9 years ago I would have done cartwheels but even now it's a low risk high reward move. if he sucks we cut him w/ no penalty, if we catch lightning in a bottle we could get a good, cheap player.
hey man im knocking you ethier way..hell you have a right to hate this. but this is gonna be our major FA signing:breakdance:
It's not very often we agree but I'm with you. What is the risk in trying , the guy was the #3 overall pick for a reason and I lived in Phoenix when he played with the Cards. He was a good player but played for a shitty team and had some injuries. If the guy was looking for a pay day he wouldn't have shown up in great shape or attempted to get back into football for the last 6 years.
I think this would be a great move. There is no risk on the Jets part. Plus, even though he is 32 he is a.) only 2 years older than Adalius Thomas and b.) since he has been out of the league for 6 years, he is not as beat up as most 32 year old players. If he works out we may be able to get solid production from him for 5 years.
As has become my position with the Tannenbaum/Mangini regime - I will trust that they see something of value in Wadsworth. He was a major talent, and if he's the kind of smart, tough player they like and if he can provide production wherever in the defense (DE/LB or even just a pass rushing specialist) then great! No risk at all...
Signing him to a contract only means he's coming to camp. After being out for so liong, I'm sure it was for the veteran minimun. There is really no risk here and I'm sure no guaranteed money was involved.
I thought I read somewhere a long while back he has some hugely successful busines of some sort where he made like millions. If thats the case then you know he wants to play anf he's cheap. This is all upside stuff.
YO I don't know Turn off the lights and I'll glow To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle Dance.. go rush to the speaker that booms I'm killing your brain like a poisonous mushroom Deadly.. when I play a dope melody Anything less than the best is a felony Love it or leave it you better gain weight You better hit bull's eye the kid don't play If there was a problem YO I'll solve it Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it YO...word to your motha. Im sorry...i was just so tempted...
Then you must be saying get rid of Chad, since he's been hurt a few times and we are just waiting for the next serious injury? Just fooling, I think this a a low risk deal with a good up side, but not fooling about Chad, I hope he loses the starting job this year. I can't stand seeing him throw floaters all year long.
