This CLEARLY belongs in Mr Potato Fro's zombie thread. I mean, hell, that thread has Al Davis written all over it! http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=45599&highlight=Zombie
July 4, will be the great Al davis + George Steinbrenner(sp?) birthday. Happy birthday to two living legends.
Why so much hate for a man that has done a better job at winning than this team has Just goes to show how brainwashed people are Since I've been born the Raiders have won 3 Super Bowls and won 4 Championships That is a much better record than ours
^why? they both have spent tons of money in the last 5 years and have not won a championship doing so. just a lil joke.
What's your frame of reference? Are you a teenager? Not being a smartass but anyone who knows sports knows your statement is ridiculous.
Nobody can deny that Al Davis was a very successful owner. I think the closest parallel to Al Davis is Howard Hughes. Threw caution to the wind, went against the grain and was richly rewarded for doing so. However, the same character traits that made him so successful caught up to him later in life, warped his mentality and tainted his legacy. Both would have been well served passing the torch before their personality disorders became a problem.
Al Davis is crazy. His obsession with speed comes from him seeing Bob Hayes, who easily outran the best sprinters in the world before coming to football and just outrunning football players who were nowhere near as fast. He doesn't realize that the game has changed dramatically and that there is NO ONE with that kind of speed advantage anymore. It was tried with Carl Lewis (fail), Ron Brown (fail), Willie Gault (fail), James Jett (fail), and Jimmy Hines (oops). A hall of fame receiver, Bob Hayes, just so happened to be a world champion Olympic sprinter. Jim Davis thinks, thanks to that, that the fastest team wins, but it just doesn't. You need to be good at football.
Al says he won't retire until he wins two more superbowls... so he's basically going to die before he retires.
What's the complex version? Tell us. We want to know that Al Davis isn't just living in the past. Show us some small excerpt from Al Davis' grand master plan to sabotage his team at every turn. You, as a Raiders fan, of all people, should know about the phone calls to the sidelines during games. Opposing coaches know about the phone calls. Other team's fans know about the phone calls! We all know that when someone answers that phone, a long pass play is called, no matter what the situation. Tell me what is oversimplified about this. I'm dying to know. I know you want to defend your own, but you've got to understand that while Al Davis was great in the past, he has been destroying your franchise for almost a decade. Or is it some wonderful plan that Mr. Davis has that will spontaneously produce the greatest team ever known like RaiderJoe declares before each season?
Do I need to take on all of your conspiracies point by point? Al Davis likes speed because he saw Bob Hayes run by everyone? Really? I thought he liked speed because he learned about offensive football as Sid Gillman's assistant coach, in the bombs away AFL with Lance Alworth and all that. Shows you what I know. And there's always a bomb after the legendary phone call to the sideline, right? Warren Sapp said so, right? And he never exaggerates, or says outrageous stuff to get his fat face on TV, right? And did you know that Jim Fassell and Jon Gruden, who have both called plays for Davis, totally deny that? Well you listen to Sapp and I'll listen to Fassell and Gruden. Believe what you want to believe, as fans we all do.
By the way, I'd be remiss if I didn't point out the stupidity of one of these jokes: This guy is clowning on Tom Flores? For what, winning two Super Bowls?
