Every Play Counts: Jets? Offensive Line 1/3/2007 by Michael David Smith http://www.footballoutsiders.com/2007/01/03/ramblings/every-play-counts/4770/
I love to hear AJ lined up as an ER on the Goalline set. He was a TE in College and has some pass catching skills
Very spot-on review. Good to see that they are a little critical of Brick, and that Moore's weekly penalties aren't going unnoticed.
I enjoyed the review too. I'm surprised at the reviews that Clement is getting though. I'm not sure how old he is, but maybe we won't be needing a OT in the draft this year. OG for sure with Kendall getting older and Moore playing inconsistent.
This is why you don't judge players on one game alone, for the most part Moore has been solid this season and has played better than Kendall,Clement has been horribly inconsistent and is the weakest link on the o-line.
This time next year should we have the same probs with Brick then I may start to worry a bit. As a rookie LT hes done OK and as far as the season goes I would give him a B- , as opposed to Mangold getting a A-. As far as Kendal goes , I expect another season from him and next draft we get his long term replacement. This made me laugh though....Go CHAD , Mr Jets. Hes certainly earnt his $$$ back.
Thats a bit harsh , hes not the best , but not the worst either. Last year he was the only lineman to play in every game , so hes tough if nothing else.
If we can get a free agent guard, I'd like Moore as a backup. Then again he came from u of Illinois, not exactly a football powerhouse.
Moore was poor last year but he's been solid this year.He can get a nice push in the short yardage situations and quietly does a nice job of getting to the second level and blocking a linebacker. He's not very good at pulling but he does a better job of pass blocking than Kendall. He's a solid player and could probably do better if he didn't have a poor player on his right.
One of the two on the right side have to be replaced this off-season. A guy like Justin Blalock would really sure up our run blocking, and OL play overall.
Great review...Moore is definitely the first that needs to be replaced... Then replacements found for Kendall and Clements, though I wouldn't mind drafting the heir apparent and sitting them on the bench next year while they get up to speed and use that first season to bulk up.
i really don't see much need for improvement here... the rookies will get bigger and stronger for run blocking. I think clement is a fine pickup and has a few years left...
We need a power running game. Will we ever be able to make a 3rd and 1 by running the ball? I think D'Brick will always be a liability in the running game. We need to replace Moore and Clement for next season. Wilfork, Seymour and Warren are going to be around for a while. We need a line that can dominate that group.
Mangold gets a A-? I think he gets an A+. D'Brick needs some tuneing up but he is still looking good. He will be getting some work in the offseason and Offensive line coach will help him out with how he plays and I also believe that he will get better. Back to Mangold he has been a monster out there and I think he is a quick study when it comes to the playbook.
This guy is too critical on Brick. I watch him a lot of plays and he doesnt always get help. I agree he needs to work on the run blocking more in the offseason but his pass blocking in my opinion is great I dont care what anyone else. His run blocking has been average but hes still a rookie and can get better. LT is physically the hardest position to play on line in the NFL. Center is the hardest mentally. And for rookie Brick and Mangold have both done a hell of a job.
Once Brick bulks up more he'll be fine, and lol @ Adrian Jones running route on a pass at the goal line........... (The one where Baker got the TD)
