They don't realize we are an even year team. Odd years: 1999: 8-8; Tuna leaves after the season 2001: Lose to the Raiders in the Playoffs 2003: 6-10; Pennington breaks arm during preseason; We even lost twice to the Fins 2005: 4-12; Pennington destroys his shoulder; transforms into noodle arm 2007: 4-12; You know the story 1998 - AFC Championship Game 2000 - Just missed the playoffs at 9-7 in a tough division; Monday Night Miracle 2002 - AFC East Title; 41-0 Jets over the Colts in the Playoffs 2004 - Curtis Martin leads league in rushing; If we had a different kicker we would have been in the AFC Championship 2006 - 10-6; overachieving squad makes the playoffs; Pennington Comeback Player of the Year 2008 - What can Brett do? It's obvious that since its an even year, we will have at least 9 wins and have a 83% chance of making the playoffs.
One thing I hate is that after we went 4-12 3 years ago nobody gave us any credit to even come close to playoffs and we then went 10-6 the following year. This past year we went 4-12 so you would THINK that people would bring up this fact and give us some props. However I never hear anyone say anything about it. Now with these 8 great signings of the off-season our team might be the best it's been since I've been a fan (or atleast since the 04 team)
10-6 is definitely realistic. Anything greater than that (given the personnel changes) is unrealistic. If we can squeak into the playoffs, then it should pretty interesting (given the presence of Favre as a leader).
