I'm a big Cotchery fan. Caught a little of your game today on replay, but I want the insider opinions. What are you guys feeling about your wide receiver situation?
yea he looked good u know who really impressed me??? TIM DWIGHT.......guy had a few catches and seems to be a good go to guy
cotchery looked pretty good. He made the longest pass that traveled in the air.. about 20 yards. He made two acrobatic catches in the endzone, but one he was out of bounds.. there was no chance for him to get it, the other one he made a willie mayes looking catch in the endzone but it was nicely defended by zemitus and it got batted out of his hands.
Coles is a legit #1, not on a level of Terrell Owens or Chad Johnson, but a very good receiver. McCareins is a decent #2 receiver, middle of the pack type of guy. He's tougher than most receivers though, strong and plays like a tight end. Not very fast. ok hands. Tim Dwight is an ok #3 gamebreaker. Probably will catch between 25-30 balls this season. Doesn't get open enough. that's why he's in this role basically. Don't know what we have in Cotchery yet. He's got talent though. Might one day develop into a decent #2 who can catch 60 balls. right now he'll battle with Dwight for the #3 role. Ridgeway and Brad Smith battling for the 4/5 spot. We have WR depth, nothing spectacular though.
I still think Cotchery could be a very good #2 receiver in the NFL. Been saying that since 2002 when he was a Wolf...or Wolfpack member...or Wolfpack player...what the hell do you call a North Carolina State football player?
Yea, member of the Wolfpack is what we usually say. Some say Wolfpacker, but supposedly that's not proper etiquette. Whatever, delving into what's colloquial slang vs. proper NC State lexicon is not my forte. Appreciate the input guys. Hope you guys do well this season.
Coles & Dwight did well with the first team offense. Cotchery did very well with the second team. Newhouse surprised me, he catches with his hands very well (as opposed to his body). Brad Smith bobbled a very easy pass from Ramsey, and turned an opportunity to have a big run after catch to nothing. McCareins started with teh first offense, but never got the ball; don't even know if it was thrown in his direction My guess for opening day: (1) Coles, (2) Cotchery, (3) Dwight, (4) McCareins, (5) Smith, (6) Newhouse This is assuming they all make the team, and no trades.
I was impressed with Cotchery, and if McCareins continues to suck and Cotchery plays well in the pre-season, he'll be seeing some good amount of time. I love Tim Dwight. He'll replace Chrebet on 3rd downs nicely and looks like he has the same kind of drive to win and play the way Chrebet did. Of course, he;ll never replace Chrebet ultimately, but hey, i won't complain if he comes up with some big catches on 3rd down.
I think Reggie Newhouse has the inside track on Ridgeway. I also think Cotchery will displace McCariens as the other starting wide out, but Dwight will keep the slot job. McCariens is trade bait.
