I happen to think that these are the best All Star Rosters I've ever seen Some of the selections by the fans were just plain smart, which almost never happens. Placido Polanco has been an elite 2b for several years now, its great that he was finally recognized as such. Prince Fielder was an obvious choice to start at 1b based on his stats, but I really dindn't expect the voting public to realize that. The only obvious and egregious fan mistake was Ivan Rodriguez over Victor Martinez, Joe Mauer, and Jorge Posada. But I can't get too worked up over a first ballot Hall of Famer getting voted in. Personally, I would have gone with Jhonny Peralta and Sammy Sosa as the Texas rep over Manny Ramirez and Michael Young. But Manny will go down as one of the greatest right handed hitters in the history of the game, and Michael Young is a perennial batting champ contender, so its not like they're a couple of scrubs. Does anyone disagree? Brian Fuentes is probably the other inclusion that looks "wrong," but before his implosion last week he was one of the top closers in the NL. And he's a far better selection than someone like Lance Carter was a few years ago.
