The day after draft weekend can be a big blow to the ego. The below list of guys were players that I had on my 2nd & 3rd round options radar for the JETS all Spring. I am very surprised how far some of them dropped --- Josh Barrett almost didnt even get drafted. Pat Sims 3rd round Dre Moore 4th round DeMario Pressley 5th round Ahtyba Rubin 6th round Jonathan Goff 5th round Josh Barrett 7th round Roy Schuening 5th round The award for the pick that knocked me completely off the couch goes to the Lions in the 2nd round picking LB Jordon Dizon from Colorado.
Yeah im very disspointed we didnt get dre Moore but i guess thye didnt like him. Im not surpised he fell because this happens every year their grades and draft board never match up to what we think.
there is no point really in mock drafts since everything is unpredictable outside of the 1st few picks
while there is no point in mocks, they still are lots of fun to do, plus they give fans time to kill and just are an absolute blast to read up on and really scout these guys. While the leading up to the draft can get overbearing with all of the mocks, after the draft, there is nothing to talk about till TC starts in 3 months.
I used to have a ton of fun doing mocks with friends, until I realized that everyone does them. Then I realized that we, the fans, simply get magazines or watch shows, or listen to the radio, and base our mock on what the "experts" have said. When the real experts are the GM's and the scouts, who don't say anything because they are busting their asses trying to figure out who will be good. It isn't much of a blow to your ego.
Jonathan Goff was the real shocker. When he was there for our taking in the fifth round, I thought it was manna from heaven. Oh well. I don't think Eric Barton gets nearly as much credit as he deserves anyway. The other big time shockers were Andre Woodson, who fell I guess because teams are worried about his wind-up. You know what? Kyle Boller has a really quick release. How's he? And the other thing that was a little surprising was Mario Urrutia. He's a basketcase, I know. But he's talented. Fortunatley, he was drafted by the Bengals, who have a long and cherished tradition of reaching out to at-risk youngsters. One more thing surprised me: Brennan went before Dixon? Oh man. I would have loved to see Dennis Dixon on the Redskins, where he might get his shot should Jason Campbell falter. And I wouldn't mind seeing Brennan on the Steelers, where he could just learn and learn and learn and maybe occasionally get on the field in garbage time. I think Dixon is going to surprise a lot of people someday. I hope he doesn't have to play wide receiver.
I was really surprised Goff went so late and was passed on by the Jets so many times. He seems like the prototypical 3-4 ILB. The Combine showed Goff's surprisingly good athleticism. And his good performance in the NFL minor league (otherwise known as the SEC) bodes well for his success. Quite frankly I am amazed we didn't take him. Especially since this is Barton's last year under contract and the team is thin on backups at ILB. If the Jets had taken Goff in the 5th, I would have given their draft an A+. But Ainge knocks it down to an A-. And Ainge's performance so far in camp has done nothing to change my negative opinion.
What exactly does Kyle Boller sucking and having a quick release have to do with Woodson's terrible mechanics? When criticizing mechanics...don't you think it's better for a coach to only have to teach a QB his offense rather than teach the now NFL QB how to throw a ball *and* an NFL offense? It's not like Woodson's got an arm like Leftwich either. It's good but not good enough that it'll stop him from sucking in the NFL.
