dont know if this was posted This might be a nice pick up in this year draft. Nick has stated he would like to play for the Jets Bio: http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2012/02/27/nick-toon-looking-to-show-flashes-of-dad-jets-great-al-toon/ http://www.uwbadgers.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/toon_nick00.html
Its been talked about a bit, but not much lately. He's a good option in the second or third, but I think we may go in other directions in those rounds. If we get someone like Edwards on the cheap side This would be a luxery pick.
I really like Marvin Jones, who looks like the rich man's Nick Toon. That said, I think Toon is going to be better than a lot of these guys, if he can stay healthy. He's pretty polished and he does things right. McNutt and Robinson are both huge guys, but God knows what kind of playing speed they're going to have. I typically stay away from the jumbo guys unless they blaze the 40. Wouldn't say either did. -X-
I was really hoping Criner falls in our lap in the 3rd, but that's pretty unlikely now. Gerell Robinson in the 4th would be pleasant.
Sadly this is true. Nick isn't the prospect we all wish he could be. In this jacked class of WR's, he could easily end up in the 4th round. I like the kid, but the injury bug scares the hell out of me.
He is a good player, whether his last name is Toon or not. He would have very good value in round 4, but he is more likely a Round 3 guy.
McNutt ran a 4.54 which is absolutely fine for his height/weight. Robinson ran a 4.62 which is less than optimal but he can get separation on the field and does a good job of using his body to shield the smaller CB's from the ball to make catches. I do agree about liking Marvin Jones though.
McNutt's time was fine, I just don't know how sudden he'll be. I actually like McNutt, I wouldn't mind the pick, but he just doesn't look that explosive on tape. Nick Toon definitely plays faster than he timed and is probably more elusive in the open field. You can tell he's very well coached and pretty adept at getting off the line without wasted steps. I worry that one guy might be constantly injured and the other guy might be Hank Baskett. -X-
Toon is a good player. Not the player his father was & he shouldn't be judged that way. His father was on his way to canton till concussions became an issue. Nick is a little more finesse, and is likely more of a number 2..but he runs good routes, has some athleticism and at times can get past the back end of a defense. He's also a cold weather player which you like. In terms of raw talent, the WR that impressed me the most at the senior bowl was Garrell Robinson. He reminds me alittle bit of David Boston(hopefully without the roid rage). Big guy, quick feet, huge wing span and just attacks the football with it. Now he doesn't run great routes..but than again..the Jets O doesn't need another route runner..they need a basketball player.
I like Toon as a player, but at the same time I don't want to get obsessed with him just because he's a former Jet's son. We all wanted Dan Klecko on the team, then half the board had a fit when NE got him instead. 2 years later he was out of the league, and all was forgotten. I'm not saying that'll happen with Toon, and if he's around in the 3rd round, it'll probably be a good pick, but we shouldn't try to get lost in comparing him to his father, any more than declaring now that Joe Montana's sons will become all-pro QBs.
