Elon Musk among experts urging a halt to AI training
    https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-65110030

Musk is the headliner but there are over 1,000 signatories here. Glad to see this happening. The of what it can become are very scary.

Yeah but will they actually halt, or just urge others to?

They probably just want to slow everyone down so they can catch up. But on the surface they also appear to be making a societal morality play even though it’s cloaked over their own desire for personal profit.

I mean that's kinda dumb right?

"hey guys lets all agree to STOP developing new technologies ..."

    good luck with that

I agree with it in principle, I just don't think it will be adhered to by people with that level of influence.

If an army of internet hustlebros can affect the world like they have in the past year or so, what can Elon Musk do with that tech?

The faster guys like Musk have a lead on this, the faster this type of AI takes over white collar jobs.

This letter also assumes I think Musk and the others are the ones I need to listen to when it comes to containing an AI apocalypse.

I do think it'll be very important to create a regulatory system for Open AI. Internet and hardware both follow industry regulations/regulators to a certain degree, this should be no different. It's a brand new type of tech.

North Korea is not going to sign the pledge you create to do this. Neither will Iran or Pakistan or anybody competing with them in a big way.

The genie is out now and the only question is how long until it puts us in the bottle. Could be a few years or it could be a thousand years but it is definitely going to happen.
