What does everyone on here think of this guy. He is the LB from virginia, and he's entering the supplemental draft. http://www.nflfans.com/x/2006/showplayer.php?key=Ahmad Brooks*
He hasnt played like an elite player in about a year and a half, has injury and character problems. I think this FO will pass...
Ask yourself, do you see Mangini, who's practically religious about high character players going to draft a player who got kicked out of his team because of character issues?
Why not, he drafted Anthony Schlegal from Ohio State in the 3rd round. Shlegal was made captain of the Air Force Academy football team.... then quit on the team to go to Ohio State.
As usual, you are reaching. Do you equate a player switching from a military academy to a Top 10 university to having character issues? I think you have character issues.
I feel like there have been about 15 different guys who have had character issues who people have suggested taking and eveytime the threads go the same way-first someone brings up Mangini and his love for high character players, then someone says the Dolphins will probably take him...every time
This guy is goin to be a great NFL player and if we dont take him that would be a huge mistake on our part. Also if we brought in this guy who has made some small mistakes in his life he would be surrounded by our high character roster and i think could help him in becoming a better person. that being said, if this guy is just a LB version of TO then obviosly we dont get him, but if hes just a guy who made a couple mistakes and is willing to dedicate himself then we better get him because he could help us out tremendously.
What's your definition of 'quitter'? I wish when I was drafted and got my orders to go overseas I could have given the US Army my two weeks notice.
Wah, life isn't fair and some people have the physical talents and wherewithall to put themselves in a better position to succeed. Sorry if that offends your personal standards, but it doesn't make him a quitter. It just means he understood the payoff for the risk.
He's not a quitter, he transferred, which is a big difference. He has said that he wanted to be a high school football coach whenall is said and done and by serving 5 years in the air force it probably wouldn't have helped. There's a big difference between being a quitter, and looking out for yourself. I don't think anyone questions Schlegel's priorities, and if they do, they are clearly biased.
Brooks is a man among boys...He may have some character flaws but honestly, who doesn't? Having seen him play in person multiple times, he stands out whenever he plays. He had two other LB's on his team at UVA who will be top round picks when they come out in Kai Parham and Darryl Blackstock. Another young stud LB at UVA but forgetting his name at the moment. Brooks was head n shoulders above these guys. He is physically a beast. He reminds me of Joey Porter in terms of his overwhelming phsyicality and athleticism. IMO He is even more athletic than Porter if you can believe that. I hope the Jets take a chance on this guy cuz he could solidify our run defense and clog up the middle as we have so desperately needed.
Kai Parham went in this draft and wasnt drfated Darryl Blackstock came out early last year and went to the Cardinals in the 3rd round last year.
I stand corrected...I was just using those guys as a basis of comparison in regards to Brooks, yet not really a good one I must admit since one didnt get drafted and the other was a 3rd rounder...But Parham will still make a team via FA imo. My point is that Brooks is a beast and he will be a great pro.
He really needs to work to get his head together, but if he is able to, then he could be a terrific player. Even though he'd be a solid fit for the Jets just because he's already very used to the 34, they won't take him because of his character problems. However, even though it was mentioned as a joke, I could definitely see Miami taking a flyer on him with a 4 or 5 round pick in the supplemental draft.
