    From Rotoworld,

A Saturday night MRI confirmed that Adrian Peterson tore both the ACL and MCL in his left knee.

Reconstructive surgery will be delayed until the MCL heals, allowing doctors to operate on the ACL. The postponement is significant because Peterson's injury occurred so late in the year. It's possible that Peterson will be a candidate for the PUP list to begin the 2012 season. The odds will be against him playing in Week 1. Toby Gerhart will probably spend the offseason and 2012 training camp as the Vikings' first-team tailback. They may also add talent in free agency and/or the draft. Peterson just signed a seven-year, $96 million contract this past September.

Worse than knowing if he will be ready for 2012 or not is wondering if he can be the same back ever again.

The Bears look like geniuses. 3 elite RBs up for new deals.
Chris Johnson signs a monster deal and promptly sucks all year
AP signs a monster deal and blows out his knee.
Matt Forte, No deal, knee injury.

    No doubt.

Its not a big secret that Rb's take the most punishment and have the shortest careers of any position. It part of why I don't hate on Greene and don;t mind havign several mid round picks as our guys. We were blessed with Cmarts durability but the fact is he is an extremely rare back to be that healthy for that long.

Invest early picks on Oline and keep decent backs that can hit the hole with speed and/or power around. RB's should be lower priority in team building and salary cap space.

Johnson's actually aveaged almost 5 yards per carry in the second half of the season, but he's only had 3 games of the last 11 where he got more than 15 carries, so they haven't helped him much.

The basic point is well-taken, however - giving a long-term contract to a running back is usually a bad business decision.

Welker and Brady had the same injury, both are playing at higher levels than before they suffered it, it seems.

It all depends on your rehab and mental state it seems. Dedicate yourself the right way and you'll be just fine. Peterson has never been known as one to give up or lack a work ethic. As long as this is the extent of his injury, i think he'll be just fine.

Welker and Brady don't take the abuse that starting RB'S do though. Gonna be very tough for him to come back and play at his level, the only RB I know in recent memory to come back from an injury like this is Willis McGahee. But I won't put anything past A.D, dude is a beast.

Welker is the best case scenario, though even then 2010 was his worst year with the Pats by far. Brady, and Carson Palmer both lost some of their already questionable mobility after the injury. I think AP can come back if things go well, but it will put a dent in his production next year.

Nowadays a ligament injury isn't a big deal (unless you weigh 350lbs like Jenkins). He'll get back to top form...

Just sucks that there was absolutely no reason for him to return to the team this year, and now this happens. A damn shame.

i can only wish the best for him. he seems like an upstanding guy who works hard and is EXTREMELY talented. hopefully he can return to full form next year or the year after.

Hubs is devastated. We actually argued last week about it because I thought the "i'm gonna play for my fantasy team owners" premise was stupid and a bad idea. And I was right... As women always are.
