    1. Hire a top DC and totally ignore the defensive side of the football. This will make the defensive players think you’re a jerk but the only way to earn respect from the HC is by making plays on Sundays.

    2. Just for insurance. Hire a Yes Man OC that can take the blame in case your offensive game planning does not work. This will give you at least another shot if you hire a new OC.

    3. Develop Sam Darnold into a f----n superstar that will make any WR look like Jerry Rice. By doing this all arrogant skill players will be forced to play by your rules or else they will be traded to the Cleveland Browns.

    4. Get into a rift with your GM so he gets fired. Then bring in a new GM who is a former O-lineman and knows how to find guys to protect your franchise QB.

    5. JUST WIN BABY!

I actually think that was part of the plan too. Make the worst first impression you possibly can, so that from that point on your reputation can only go up.

So far he has been overwhelmingly successful at making the worst possible first impression.

I don’t think he could’ve had a worse start to his tenure if he tried.

Yeah without question. The sad part about that is that rising from such a low level to actually being able to win a few games can make him look like the next Bill Belichick.

I was thinking if all Gase does was bring Joe Douglas here and turn Darnold into a top 10 QB, that’s a lot you can ever want from an average at best coach.

I continue to believe most coaches are a product of their talent outside of Belichick and a couple others. Everyone else is just average and will look better when their talent is better.

Disagree. The firing of Mac and hiring of Douglas, both because of Gase, was as good as it could possibly get. Getting a home win against a good Dallas team by having Sam look miles ahead of last year was as good as it gets.

Anyone who gave a shit how we looked with anyone other than Sam behind center was clueless about what this year was for and why Gase was hired. Sam looks miles better than he did last year in his one healthy start. This year was always about getting Sam further along in his development.

Spot on Biggs. This season was all about 14 taking the next step AGAIN. Any success that we could possibly have is a cherry on top if Sam looks like he’s the one.

You are obviously forgetting how Sam finished off last year. He's picking up now where he left off.
Sam has the chance to make Gase look competent, not the other way around.

You are also conveniently forgetting how unprepared and disinterested the team has looked, how bad our offense looked week 1, and how bad we looked with both backup QB's (one of which Gase lobbied to get here).

Then there is the lack of accountability Gase takes for his part in shitty game planning, play calling, and lack of adjustments.

The story is not over, but as far as first impressions, it's been flat out disasterous.
There's no other way to spin it.

Yea, but that Dallas game goes quite aways from what this team looked like running under a practice squad qb.

I know the Cowgirls were without Amari Cooper and the two tackles but holding on like they did gives us some hope.
And for Jet fans, that's been lacking for a long time.

When a team checks out at first sign of adversity, that's not a good sign of things to come.
While the development of Darnold is of upmost importance, it's not the only job of the HC.
Gase has to step up and show he is a team leader. He's never accomplished that as a HC, which is concerning.

I mentioned in another thread, the Dallas game was a very encouraging step.

Taking on NE would be another massive step, one that would likely get me on board.
The NE defense has been stellar. We will need an excellent offensive game plan, and likely need to adjust on the fly to whatever they are giving us.

You are obviously forgetting the Jets lost their last 3 games with Sam starting including a putrid performance against the Pats to end the season.

4-12 last season... Gase only needs 3 more wins to match that. We will see if he can. Some folks wanted him fired last week though
