The Broncos want to get rid of both their first rounders in exchange for early picks next year. We can send off Abraham and next year's 2nd & 3rd for those two picks... yes? NO? Broncos | Team not willing to pay what Abraham is asking Wed, 15 Mar 2006 08:24:05 -0800 Jeff Legwold, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports the Denver Broncos are not willing to pay what New York Jets franchise free agent DL John Abraham is asking. Abraham would like between $17 million and $18 million in guaranteed money, pricing himself out of the range for some of the league's biggest spenders. The Broncos are waiting for his price to drop. Broncos | Team shopping two first-round picks Wed, 15 Mar 2006 08:23:37 -0800 Jeff Legwold, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports the Denver Broncos are shopping their two first-round picks in the 2006 NFL Draft in exchange for early picks in the 2007 NFL Draft. The team does not have much cap space left after paying out several up-front signing bonuses.
When he says early picks I think he means for a team that should be looking at a top ten pick next year not 2nd & 3rd rounders. When we as in the broncos traded our first last season it was to a team that was picking in the top ten but who knew mark brunell was going to find the fountain of youth & santana moss was going to break out & finally put it all together having his best season as a pro ( surley not the jets since they traded him for old man coles). For our late first last season we got their #1 & #4 this season plus a third last season which we used on dominique foxworth who looks like he is going to be a starter for many a years to come for us. Now if a late first has that kind of value in a weak draft which last years was considered then I would imagine it would carry at least that kind of value again this season in a very talented & deep draft. I could see Shanny rolling the dice on one of those 1st rounders to try and get a top ten pick next year but their is no way in hell that he trades both of them for one first next year or for abe & a 2nd & 3rd next year.
If we traded our 4th for their 22nd and 29th wed be getting ripped off BIG TIME Itd have to include an additional pick, possibly a pick this year coupled with a pick next year
there is no way abraham would lower his asking price. Just think about though 3 first round picks, thinking back to our 4.
NO WAY. Trade away two high picks next year to give up one of our best players?!?! I can almost hear it..."I'll gladly pay you Tuesday, for a hamburger today!"
Abe may be out on the market for awhile........he has to come down, too. It may take till just before the draft for him to start smelling reality. It is sad, I really liked the guy, but now all I see is greed.
From what I remember it dosent work that way. If we franchise him, and sign him (or trade him) after a given date, then we lose our franchise tag for the remainder of his new contract. And that given date is a little over a week from now. At least I think Im right
Almost...but not quite... The team may sign Abe to a long-term contract between Feb. 25 and March 17 and not lose use of the tag. After March 17, signing him to a new contract would result in losing use of the "franchise" tag for the duration of the new contract. HOWEVER, some teams have executed a procedural way around that rule, in which the team signs the player to a one-year contract, then signs him to a long-term contract on July 15 or after, which would allow the team to reclaim the "franchise" tag.
If he ended up in our division this would make sense. Right now, he is being an idiot. I am not saying he isn't worth a decent buck, but gees. Thank God for the salary cap or he'd be asking for ARod money.
Well.. look at Brees. He went to a shittier franchise for more money. Let me tell you, I hate the Dolphins, but I live here in the MIA and I'll take a pay cut to play in this city. Titties and sunshine.... hmm hmm good! How Brees chose not to play here is beyond me... Someone will give Abe the money he is asking for. Now, will we get true value for him, I'm not too sure.
