Last year I thought Abe was shopped and no one offered a first rounder. (Franchise tag worth two firsts in theory). This is not a question of what we would want for him but what can we get for him. He was healthy but everyone knows we are in a cap situation where it is unlikely we can keep him. What is your best guess of what we can get?
Great point. 31 other teams know we can't keep him. If we could keep him I say we could get a first for him. Since we can't, I am thinking a mid-2nd. Damn, now I feel sick.
A late first rounder would be fair IMO. If not that then a 2nd rounder and a player would also be good.
It depends what people are willing to pay. Last year no one wanted to pay a 2nd rounder for Edgerin James or Shaun Alexander. A few years ago, Atlanta gave up a 1st rounder for Peerless Price.
Rivers is worth little to the Chargers with Brees as their starter and they just resigned Feeley to a new contract to be their #2. We can't afford Abe so it's a good trade. Plus the Chargers already paid Riviers his signing bonus so all we would have to pay is his annual salary which isn't that bad for a starter. Add in that our new OC is very familiar with Rivers so look for the obvious trade. Chad will be gone for sure if the trade happens.
The only team I think we could get some real good value from for Abraham is KC, with the thought that Herm would love to have him.
Abe for Rivers works for the Jets, with questions on Brees's shoulder I wouldnt think this is as good for SD. They also have little current cost to keep Rivers.
Marty will help out his son and give him a late christmas gift. Rivers for Abe will happen. It would save us a lot of money and give Rivers his hot.
I have said for a while, We will get nothing for him any team that wants him willl till we release him.
SD is not gonna trade us there starting QB for next year. With the reports coming out now that Brees is gonna be an unrestricted FA, we can forget about the nonsensical rumor that was the Abe for Rivers trade...
a 1st wouild be nice. but since it seems like the trend is a 2nd rd pick for big name players and a 2nd and 3rd would be fine also
guys, just look at Corey Simon last year. the eagles couldn't afford him and they simply had to let him go. no team offered them anything. corey simon is an above average DT too so don't give me any crap that he wasn't that good. we're in a tough spot w/Abe.
Is there any way we can keep him? I swear, I don't want to let him go for nothing. If we get no offers, then I'd keep him and he'd just have to "sufffer" making $8mil for one year. I would NOT give up this dude for nothing.
I think just the opposite, I'm thinking Abe had a great year. Proved he could stay healthy for 16 games. There is no way I trade him for less then a first round pick if not more. If no one makes a good trade offer then we find a way to sign him. We have more then one over the hill vet we can cut. What I want to know is, does Denver have any desire to give us both of there firsts for him????
exactly, so maybe we could hang on to chad and trade him for a 2nd round pick next year   jk, you do make a good point > Abe should be worth ....30-34 ..around there
