As an NCAA player... A.Woodson out of Kentucky has a strong arm but his accuracy has immpressed me vs FSU tonight
It just looks like he is really calm in the pocket, patient and always seems to hit the open man... I also like how he hits the rb, fb or te in the flats when nothing is open downfield. Looks like a real smart QB with a strong arm and high I.Q for the game.
It's easy to look good playing against almost all 2nd and 3rd stringers. He had more time in the pocket, the coverage wasn't as good. I'm not trying to say he didn't play a good game but this was not a game to judge him on since the competition just wasn't there.
Brohm > Woodson. Better mechanics, more accurate, more catchable/pro style throws... Woodson has a cannon but I still think Brian Brohm is the best NFL QB in this draft.
Being a UK grad/fan who goes to several UK games a year I've seen Woodson quite a bit. Pros- Great size. Good arm. Above average footwork. Reads defenses ok but sometimes has trouble with checkdowns. Cons- Delivery is very slow, almost looks like he winds up before he throws. His football IQ is very suspect. Throws off his back foot way too much. Regressed big time after the big LSU win. We lost 5 of our last 6, couldn't even beat Miss St at home, I watched him throw cheesy dump off after cheesy dump off in that game when we could have beaten them deep.. The Jets should stay away from him, we have much more important needs than QB.
Well certainly with Parcells/Ireland it definitely opens up that possibility. I can see us taking one of them if we can get a trade-down package. But at #1 overall it's really hard to build a case for a QB because none of them are worthy of that pick. Unless Brown is traded, Bill isn't taking McFadden either since it's highly unlikely Bill ties in 50$ million into the RB position. Chris Long and Dorsey have to be the frontrunners if we stay put, with Dorsey ahead. Again, this is Bill we're talking about, who loves big guys and was coined for that "Earth" theory--basically stating that there are so many individuals on the planet capable of playing the line. The corporate line is that Bill actually doesn't have the final say on picks, but who honestly believes that? Even if you do believe it, what based on Ireland's history suggests that he reaches on a QB at #1? I really can't see anything. What's more likely is that they gamble on a sleeper QB in the later rounds though
McNabb and Brees? How? Donovan McNabb was a great runner in college and Woodson is only a pocket passer. Brees is a very small and Woodson is 6'5 230.
I thought the same thing outloud in an earlier thread about the Falcons, but for some reason I never considered it for the Dolphins. It wouldn't surprise me, and I know the Falcons and the Dolphins need to fix QB somehow. Which helps us with them being in front of us.
