Jerald Sowell is one of our most under-rated players to play for us. He played for us for all of his career, but only started his last three. '97-'02 he spent one the bench behind Richie Anderson, and the only time he saw was on special teams. When Sowell finally started, he excelled, and by 2005 he was one of the best FBs in the league. Now it seems that he will be released, and I think I will miss him the most. So good luck to Sowell-Train.

Yes, he was drafted by Green Bay, but didn't last through training camp, and signed with the Jets.

Not sure why he will be released, we barely save anything on the cap this year and would save more cutting him next year. Unless Mangini really likes Askew, or wants to give him a full season of starting so he will be acclomated with it when we are able to compete again. None the less, Sowell over the past three years has been a very good FB for us, both as a receiver and a blocker. Under utilized is the best term to describe him.

I would think it has more to do with getting a protypical FB rather than money. Like you said its not gonna save much money. Sowell was never known for his blocking, I think they are looking for more of a Sam Gash type FB( Isn't he on our staff now?)

He never got as much attention in the offense as he should have.

Hopefull he gets released and then resigned to a lower contract.

I can't understand why BJ Askew was drafted let alone getting a chance to play FB. We wasted a 3rd pick on this guy and now we are realeasing a quality player to give him a shot? to do what? You wanna see him blocking for Curtis on the goal line???

Sowell is a good player who gave everything for the Jets.
But I'm also looking forward to see the evolution of BJ Askew, because ha can become a good fullback too.
But it is always sad to see a player like Sowell leaving

Funny that Gash & Anderson are both on our staff. Didn't Gash scoff at Anderson going to the probowl a few years back (when he caught like 80-90 passes)? Said something to the tune of "that's not a FB's job; a FB blocks for a living"

Keep Sowell-Man one more year. He'd play for practically nothing and add depth. Don't know why we're talking of cutting him this year. I know it's age, but he still produces and we'll need a few vets around after we get done re-grouping. WE NEED SOWELL.

I don't think he'd practically play for nothing. Didn't he have a disagreement about his contract before the season began?
