That assumes they will stay over the cap for the next 12 years which is a stupid assumption. They could be under as early as this year and should certainly be after Giambi and Pavano are gone after next year. That's why they are writing internet columns, I guess.
Don the numbers are absurd even if you take the luxury tax out....and you assuming we wont be over the cap for the next 12 years is equally absurd.....we were over before A-rod and we'll be over most years following A-rod.
The Yankees will have to give Posada close to 60 million for 4 years, and who knows what Rivera is going to get.
That's kind of amazing, when you pause for a second and think about it. I mean, that's a LOT of money. Do you think any of the other owners have thought about killing Tom Hicks? I would not be able to stand that guy if I were a GM or owner.
Well,if he didn't like the booing in NY,wait til he has a slump where ever he ends up. With a price like that,he better bring a cape.
If he goes to either LA team, I wouldn't really worry about the booing. besides, he could hide behind Vlad on the Angels.
Yes, major league baseball teams are really suffering and having distress sales. The Yankees are worth over a billion dollars and if you took 250 million dollars out of your pocket and put it on the table, you could not buy the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. But I guess you believe they are losing money.
I didn't say they were losing money anywhere in my post. I'm only saying they could be making more if Tom Hicks didn't outbid himself by tens of millions of dollars.
How bad would it be with the half billion bill that he breaks his leg in spring training and can't play anymore? $500,000,000 for 1 AB.
Considering the Yanks' payroll would have to decrease by more than $30 million from last year for them to ever be under the tax, the idea that they could have paid ARod $30+ mil per and stayed under the luxury tax is absurd.
That's the real problem and you don't have to look any farther then Pavano to see it. You can only buy so much insurance too.
It's already been reduced by more then 30 million. Clemens and Pettitte. (Not to say it will stay there though)
Here's the real kicker to this whole story. It will cost at least 25 million a year for Santana and that's for somebody that may play once every 5 days. When you look at that, Arod is a bargain.
