another great article by Murrell2878: http://www.theganggreen.com/2011/12/22/a-look-back-at-other-jets-week-15-collapses Thank you!
1997: won 31-0 the following week vs. TB 2000: collapsed losing final 2 2002: beat up NE the following week in NE then crushed GB to win div 2009: beat Indy and Cincy to reach playoffs 50% of the time we have made playoffs in those 4 years
Here's something positive to balance off the negative article, below are results of how the team did following what seemed to be dagger losses(in my lifetime): 1982: lose in final week of reg season to drastically affect our seeding, win 2 road playoff games and reach AFC Championship Game 1988: lose game in last minute at KC to knock us out of playoff contention, win final 2 games including knocking Giants out of playoffs in week 16 and we finished w/ winning record. 1991: lose 6-3 at home to bad NE team then bounce back to win in Miami in final week in what was a playof to get into the playoffs. 2001: lose to bad Bills team at home to drop to 9-6, win in oak the next week(a place we had never won before) to earn trip to playoffs 2002: lose to Chicago in week 15, come back to beat up NE and GB to win division/ 2004: lost 3 of last 4 in reg season, won WC game 2006: lost to bad Buf team at home to drop to 7-7, won last 3 to earn WC berth 2009: lost to Atl at home, won last 2 games to reach playoffs 2010: lost 45-3 to NE then 10-6 to bad Miami team, rebound to make playoffs and another title game
1998 still annoys me....by far the best Jets team of my lifetime. Those Bronco teams were tough unfortunately.
New York Jets collapses: 1984 = started 6-2, finished 7-9 1986 = started 10-1, finished 10-6 1991 = started 7-5, finished 8-8 1993 = started 7-4, finished 8-8 1994 = started 6-5, finished 6-10 1997 = started 8-4, finished 9-7 2000 = started 9-4, finished 9-7 2008 = started 8-4, finished 9-7 2011 = started 8-5, finished ???
Why do you say it was a negative article? I wrote "that despite last week’s loss – as bad as it was – we can still get into the playoffs and make a run. This can go either way. Let’s go Jets!!"
I'm past it, it's not something I want to discuss 2 days before the next game. I just want to beat the Giants.
most of those are in the past, the giant ones are current Under Coughlin: 2004: started 5-2, ended up 6-10(missed playoffs) 2006: started 6-2, ended up 8-8(lost WC game) 2008: started 11-2, ended 12-4(lost at home in div rd) 2009: started 5-0, ended up 8-8(missed playoffs) 2010: started 6-2, ended up 10-6(missed playoffs) 2011: started 6-2, currently 7-7
It's a little early to put 2011 on that list. Here's a positive stat, in the years ending with 1 since I've been a Jet fan: 1981: Made playoffs 1991: Made playoffs 2001: Made playoffs Let's do it.
and each of those years we won in the final week to make the playoffs. '81 crushed GB(which got the Giants into the playoffs for the first time in 18 years) '91 the great OT win at Miami '01 the John Hall long FG at the gun at Oakland
It's entirely possible that the loser of the Jet-Giant game could make the playoffs and the winner not make it. Food for thought.
All great memories. Here's one for your 1982 memory banks, junc. Jets linebacker Stan Blinka nearly killed GB WR John Jefferson during that game: http://www.nytimes.com/1982/12/02/s...s.html?scp=1&sq=Jets+Packers+roughness&st=nyt http://www.nytimes.com/1982/12/09/s...l.html?scp=3&sq=Jets+Packers+roughness&st=nyt
