Watched it a couple of times and 1 thing I'll tell you, Our D is better When all hands are on deck... I'm Talking Cro Revis Pryor Williams Gilchrist Skrine Richardson Mauldin etc...All Starters healthy and on the field. Problem is, How many times have we had that? They were solid Sunday and Yes, they gave up a few big plays but IMO... I like an aggressive D. and imo Cro is Not 100% . Not justifying him being out there but the secondary is banged up and the only excuse is if a 85% Cro is better than the next guy. Playing injured is fine as long as it's not hurting your team. They were close to a couple of pick 6's yesterday (Yep, I know almost doesn't count) but I still like the aggressiveness..and they did hit Yates often also. Have Cro and Revis lost a step? Yea..are they still better than most 1-2 CB's in the NFL? I think so. -Sidebar: I'm hoping this crazy fuk Fitz is lighting a fire because honestly, there is no other reason unless he's just insane... He did have crazy eyes after that hit...lol That said My point is this, the JETS D hasn't hit it's ceiling yet imo and let's not forget this is Bowles 1st year implementing the D. ftr, having a healthy Pryor is one of the things u notice when this D is playing on point. That Safety in the Box is so important on this D. What a difference a year makes. Leonard Williams made a few nice plays last few weeks. I've also seen Pace make a few...ssshhh. I know, That's a flash in the pan. Jets D is around fifth in Yds/G, T-1st in Fumbles, have 10 INT's, T-3rd in YPP... and the D has yet to play healthy and whole for a string of weeks in a row. When we get to that point, I really think it'll be scary. Remember the st couple games of the season? That D? Well that D has to show up because That is the ONLY way we succeed this year and that was without Richardson. We know this O Can score but it can also look bad too and Inconsistency on O means having an OK defense won't cut it. But, we gotta get all hands on deck again, FAST! Maybe? Maybe Not?
I'll agree with most of what you said but Cro hasn't lost a step, he lost a step in 2013 he's lost 12 steps he deserves to be cut !
And our linebackers haven't had tackling drills since ...college? Cro isn't the only thing sucking on our D
This defense has better personnel than 2009. Agree there are injuries but a coach also has to cook up some good schemes for them to execute
The Dolphins OL is a mess and has been for a couple of years. The Jets only need to rush 4 and keep the rest in coverage...Mevis will have a career day...Cro will make money for the baby's mommas. If Geno gets a shot he'll look like Joe Montana...god knows why but he's a dolphin killer.
We may never be 100% on defense. That's a pipe dream. I was under the impression that Bowles was really adept at plugging in players when starters get hurt...next man up and all that. We were thoroughly out-coached Sunday. Revis was simply out-played. Fitz is a lunatic...if his td run doesn't spark something in this team then we're a lost cause anyway. Poor Breno...he's seeing J.J. Watt in his nightmares. We all know the script by now. We'll be lucky to win two more games this year.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, sit Davis and play Henderson. I'm sick of seeing missed tackles, Harris may not be flashy but at least he can wrap up a ball carrier. Davis is the new Kyle Wilson on the team, all bark, no bite
The problem with our defense is once again predictability on defense. Every 3rd and 6+ we put all our corners in man press on the line and then the rest of the defenders in a rush position on the line leaving no back end support. Bowles defense has been on tape now. He needs to stop doing this horse shit. All you need to beat that defense is one out of four receivers to be his man to the inside on a slant and there's a potential to give up a touchdown. It also allows for big gaps in the running game. McCoy exposed it on later downs, late in the Bills game. If one gap isn't covered you have a minimum 15 yard gain.
I really tried to believe Demario Davis would improve, but we need to get him off the field. The dude misses way too many tackles. And he absolutely cannot cover a RB out of the backfield. It's really hard to watch him out there.
A few points here: 1. Revis isn't an island anymore, but he's still a very good corner. Nothing to worry about here. 2. Cromartie isn't a cornerback anymore, he's a tall guy who stands back there. 3. We are getting the best safety play (from our starters, anyway) we've had in long time. 4. Our D-line is very good against the run, but doesn't generate a pass rush--isn't that part of the job? 5. Our Linebackers can't tackle, except for Harris, who can't catch anybody to tackle them. 6. Our Linebackers can't generate a pass rush, except for some backups who can't play--I have to assume they can't master the playbook, or they'd get playing time. 7. Everybody is happy to hate on Bowles/Gailey, but nobody ever brings up Kacy Rogers (He's our DC, for those who don't know). Why not? 8. John Scott, Jr.--who I'm sure is a great guy, and probably very competent-- is on staff as "Defensive Quality Control". That shit ain't happenin' right now, John.
I just think its so fucking Jets- like that the one day the rest of the defense clamp down Revis decides to have his 2nd worst game of his career. Like WTF! We can never have the ball rolling on all phases. Either offense is doing ok or defense sucks or the other way around.. Shit even if the O and D are doing well the jet-like way is to allow 2 special teams TD's or some BS! Why can't we have a group of coaches that will all have their own units ready to go each n every sunday!?!
What? You DARE to make a positive post/thread amidst the sea of negative, whining ones? You certainly have our nerve, even if you are a moderator! LOL You make some good points, but I'm sure that many won't acknowledge or even recognize their validity. The one thing I may disagree with is Cro. I haven't been able to see the Jets play once this season, but if what I've been reading on this board since TC is true, Cro has consistently looked bad this season. That's the only thing that is really puzzling me right now. I don't know if Bowles is continuing to go with Cro because he's hoping that Cro will create some of those big plays he did last season with AZ, if he doesn't have confidence in Williams, or if all the posters here who say Cro sucks are wrong.
Mauldin looks promising, our starting safeties are a fantastic tandem, D-line remains legit, Revis is still Revis (hopkins killing it notwithstanding, not a CB in the league was stopping that…) also, last I checked we're still the best if not one of the best red zone D's in the league, We've got a few liabilities that are killing us right now though, but its not all doom and gloom
My biggest disappointment on Defense last week was not Revis getting burnt, but the fact that we seemed to have NO ANSWER for direct snaps to runners/receivers out of the backfield. How many times can you let a team get away with that????
From your lips to Gods Ears and then hopefully Bowles... davis is a liability and has been, Pace gets any slower I'll race him... Play Reilly, Maud and henderson and whatch the difference...
Curious to see who we retain a year from now. I'd love to see Henderson get more reps at WILL ILB over Davis. He and Cro have been consistent liabilities, it'd be nice to have a sure starter going into next year.
We're obviously in a transition from starters who struggle to young, unproven players who may (or may not) be the answer. Time/games will tell. Bowles didn't really know for sure what he'd get out of Revis, Cro, Gilchirst, Pryor, etc. The team was all new to Bowles. Somethings have not worked out, like Revis Island and Cro. Others have worked out splended, like Prioy, Skrine, & Gilchrist. We have young DBs in the wings will Marcus, Milliner, Walls, McDougle. Let these guys get healthy and get some quality practice time and they will get in the games more. Again, unknowns Bowles needs to figure out. But overall I agree with Royal Tee. Bowles has about 10 different things on Defense to get straight, and it wont all happen in one game. But if Bowles can get this figured out quick, it will be fun to watch.
I thought one of the announcers said that Henderson was seen limping off the field this Sunday after seeing a small bit of playing time.
