Why hasn't anyone thought about the draft in the strategy that has been done in the last three years? The Jets 1st Round Draft Since 06': 2006- D'brickashaw Ferguson & Nick Mangold (* My bad. I typed this quick in lecture. I'm sorry I forgot we had two first round picks.) 2007- Darrelle Revis (Traded Up) 2008- Vernon Gholston & Dustin Keller (Traded Up) So in 2009, I believe it is safe to assume the Jets will trade up. This is my belief, and I felt like sharing my prediction for 2009. In 2009, the Jets draft James Laurinaitis with the 17th overall pick, and trade up to pick 24-32, and pick Darrius Heyward-Bey. With a receiving corps of Coles, Cotchery, DHB, Stuckey, Clowney, and Keller. Unreal passing game opportunity. hmy: Our LB Corps would be: Vernon Gholston (BT backup), Laurinatis, Harris, and Pace.hmy: The other needs we need to address are at DB (CB/S), and DE. Notice how I did not address QB, simply because the QB Class for 2010 is on a level unparalleled by the Class of this year. If you can call the QBs this year a "class". You will have a choice between Tebow, Bradford, McCoy, Snead, Skinner, and Clausen. My personal favorite is McCoy, but the class of 2010 is worth waiting for. We need to address our defense first and hopefully we are playoff bound with either Ratliff or Clemens under center. If not, we can address the offense in 2010. I would like to know, if given the above situation of the Jets drafting Laurinaitis & DHB in the first where do we go from there in the rest of the draft, assuming we gave up a 2nd and 3rd round pick for DHB.
The reason this makes no sense is b/c of a new HC. If Mangini was still in there I would somewhat agree, however in this case with a different group of people making decisions I tend to disagree.
ok fair enough mistakes happen in class... i know the feeling. second problem - kinda huge... you can't trade up from 17 to 24.... you trade down. Pleaaasseeee tell me that was a typo too.
I did think about that, given that Rex Ryan is making decisions, but the front office is the same, as well as in comparison to 2006, we have more than one glaring hole on the depth chart, on offense we are weak at WR and on Defense we are weak at DE, LB, and DB. But Rex Ryan is a defensive coach which is why I predicted Laurinaitis regardless if we trade up or not i think we will take Laurinaitis/Maualuga/Cushing with the 17th pick. In the spirit of his press conferences, he would like to appease Brian Schottenheimer and give him something to work with on offense, what better way to know that he should have confidence in his role as OC, as well as let Schotty respect Ryan as a HC, than allow him to draft a player to fit his playcalling?
you misread. we stay with the 17th pick. we use a 2nd and 3rd pick to get a pick in the 24-32 range. 2nd + 3rd = 1st i believe is trading up. :shit:
personally I hate the prospect of trading back up again this year, hate it. i would rather trade down from 17 in the first place. That said, I hate DHB even more. So as you can guess, im not really in favor of the move... but thats really just my opinion anyways...
but you do think we need a receiver though right? if you do, who would you take? My favorite wide receiver in college didnt come out this year, Marshawn Gilyard. Therefore, I see tape of DHB, and his combine, and theres no reason why we shouldn't take him. He's actually faster than any WR this year and next year, has size, and hands. I do like Kenny Britt, too.
I'd rather draft Arrelious Benn in 2010. Hakeem Nicks is going to be Head & Shoulders better than DHB. If Kenny Britt slips to the Jets in rd 2....I'd take him in a heartbeat. Some team is going to fall in love with DHB's 40 time and reach for him probably in mid rd 1.
what is the problem with DHB? you can teach hands, you cant teach speed. Arrelious Benn has size, but hasn't done anything worth a 1st round pick selection IMO, he is consistent but against double coverage or man the only reason why he makes plays is because he plays against weak secondary competition, despite it being a strong conference. I'm talking strictly first round choice status. If the scenario is that the NY Jets trade up to have TWO 1st round pick selections as they did in last years draft, or trade up to get a better selection in 2007 with Revis, who would you take with the first TWO picks of the 2009 Draft?
you cant use a passionless wideout to speak your point. brad smith was a QB, was taught hands, Antwan Randle-El, the cokehead from the Jags, there have been many athletes that have come into the NFL and have played wide receiver with success. McCareins just flat out could not play at this level. He's more of a CFL kind of guy. Yes. I meant that with disrespect to Canada.
You are too young to remember Johnny Lam Jones........do some research on this Jet from the early 80's........speed isn't the answer. Tracks stars are not football players. Jerry Rice, the greatest receiver EVER in the NFL, had below average speed. Running great routes, having great hands, working harder than the competition and doing all the liitle things to be successful make receivers great. Speed isn't the the complete picture, and DHB has a long way to go to be a complete WR. If he was a finished product, he would be a Top 5 pick.........scouts know there is a risk drafting DHB....cause there is alot lacking in his game and too many unanswered questions. You're waaaaay off base on teaching hands....either you have or you don't. Some receivers get better over time, but great hands are something you are physically gifted with........look at tapes of Hakeem Nicks (best hands this draft). DHB has a very limited resume and and has showed very little on tape (game day) to earn 1st rd status. There were games he was invisible. Two of his biggest plays in his career were reverses. I have never seen him go across the middle or even been physical against defenders. Arrelious Benn .........do some more research on this WR........he's a much more polished receiver and all around football player than DHB. Benn is going to be a Top Ten pick next year. Benn does everything well, he's a completer receiver. Living in Big Ten Country, I've seen Benn and he's the real deal. BTW, compare Benn's 2008 stats (1055 yards) to DHB's 2008 stats(609 yards).....it speaks for itself.
I dont like Arrelious Benn, I never said he couldnt play. I just dont feel I'd take him in the 1st round. DHB isn't the greatest pick, hes a need pick. Actually if it was my Draft and I was Mike T, I wouldnt draft a receiver because I dont like any of them, but I know what the team needs, and they need added competition at wideout. I like Hakeem Nicks swagger, and hands, but not sure about his production. From a strictly coaching aspect, having a receiver that can stretch the field and have a vertical on fade routes and red zone threats is crucial. DHB performed more consistently than every wideout in his class at the combine. I feel that our most glaring needs are on defense. My whole draft would be defense, sprinkle in a wide receiver. Again, the question isn't giving me a history lesson on Jerry Rice, (as he is the best WR ever, and he wasnt the fastest, but he could run routes had hands and was relentless). I believe Fitz will be the greatest. The question is, IF THE JETS HAVE TWO FIRST ROUND PICKS, who do you take.
We can agree to disagree on DHB....time will tell. At #17.......Mark Sanchez (if he falls), Sean Smith (expecting his stock to rise) Late Rd 1 (if we move up into late Rd 1, like last year)......Louis Delmas, Hakeem Nicks, Larry English, Clint Sintim, Alphonso Smith (next Aaron Glenn???) or LeSean McCoy. The above 8 players are my favorites iin the Mid 1st to late rd 1 area and all would be nice additions for the Jets. I didn't go MLB....assuming we sign Bart Scott.
You named all the guys I'm in love with at 17 between Sanchez, Smith, and Nicks. We should have a shot at one or two of them.
I justed edited and added 2 more....A Smith & Clint Sintim . These 8 players aren't work-out warriors (like Gholston) they are Football players, plain and simple My 8 Favorites....Mid to Late Rd 1 Sanchez Sean Smith, Hakeem Nicks, Larry English, LeSean McCoy. Louis Delmas, Alphonso Smith....his size doesn't scare me off (but I wouldn't draft him at #17) Clint Sintim
