Has anyone noticed the undertone of disrespect and ridicule thrown at the Jets over the last day or so in the analysis of this trade? Some guy in the Daily News calling it a disaster, clayton bagging us, Adande on PTI saying this is the worst possible situation and the 'last resort' for Favre? (our boy Kornheiser stuck up for us) To me this shows the lack of attention given to the Jets in general. It's funny how people were talking with some sense of suprise at our effective off-season and improvement on the roster and now a legend lands and it's the worst possible place? This is how I see it: A good but unspectacular defence with significant upgrades. A newly formed and very promising looking Offensive line - could be one of the better Lines in the conference. A Back that breaks tackles and should bump up his numbers with the line improvement.A playmaker in Washington. The most bizarre part for me is the analysis of our receivers. Am I deluded in thinking that with Coles and Cotchery we have a very good if not excellent tandem, both of whom have been known to make the spectacular catch...? Anyway, my point was going to be: Let's get behind this move - We have a future HOF QB, a great personality, superstar, one of the greatest ever lining up behind Mangold, if we can't get excited about this what can we get excited about? I think we had an outside shot at the playoffs before getting Favre. I believe now we have a decent chance. We're not a shoe-in but I think it's certainly a possibility. It's time to believe lads. Great to see some optimism on this most commonly dark message board...keep it up!
Chad_4_mvp, having watched "60 Minutes" from its inception I always take note of the "Point Counterpoint" segment. The bottom line is with anything that is done there will always be the pro and the con position. In the end, at least with Favre, it is all about winning. That takes care of everything.
Did you guys see Monday Night Countdown on ESPN last night? The whole panel of former star Football players all loved this move for the JETS, especially Tom Jackson (my favorite on the show) I'll take their opinion over some "experts" who never played the game. :jets:
The way I look at it... if it works, it will be awesome. If it fails, what have we really lost? We've had crappy seasons before. I think this has the potential to be something phenominal. Its worth it to take a shot. But as a synical Jets fan, I'm totally expecting this to backfire somehow. If it works, Favre will own this city. If not, wo what?
Yeh I'm a Jackson fan too. To be honest I think ESPN may feel a bit silly over the final outcome here. I say that becuase following the coverage in the few days before the trade, the Bucks and Jets were the two teams in contention..but they tried their best to ignore New York as a possible destination. It was all about the Bucks and his relationship with Gruden. Which I can understand really...thing is they had me fooled - I thought there was no way Favre was coming to the Jets...but hey nice suprise.
Personally as a long time fan of this team I have given up caring what other people think of the Jets long ago.
First off, Adande sucks. Second, Clayton is the only guy who has tried to discredit every single offseason move by the Jets (personally, i HATE John Clayton. I think he is a little worm that has always been extremely anti-NY. He disrespects the Giants as well). Every single fromer player besides that loser Merrill Hodge thinks this is a great move and makes us a contender. I think for the minimal risk involved, its a great move that should, at a minimum, make this a very exciting year for the J-E-T-S.
It was the same thing during the draft. everybody was talking how great Gholston was. That he could jump to #1, and all that. Then, when he goes to us @6, he's a "workout warrior", and only had a few good plays in college. Listen, we are the NY JETS. We will never get the respect of the media, or the late night talk show hosts, until we WIN SOME FUCKIN" GAMES!
