The scrimmage is over, and between Twitter and updating the site from my iPhone at lightning fast speed while watching, by thumb feels broken. Anyways, it was an OK day for the offense and a ridiculously strong day for the defense. Looks like the team may win a lot of 6 to 3 games this season. Here?s the recap of winners and losers today:

Also, for to see our live blog with play by play action click here.

Quarterback Stats: Mark Sanchez: 9-15, 70 Yards and Kellen Clemens: 5-7, 26 Yards also remember that four Sanchez passes were drops, could have been 13-15 easily.

    Winners

The first and team defense without a doubt. Neither group gave up any points whatsoever after facing Sanchez, Clemens and the starters more than a few times. This defense is fast, strong, and looked amazing even without Kris Jenkins. With him in, I feel bad for every single team we face. At one point, nose tackle Sione Pouha lined up at middle linebacker and Shaun Ellis at defensive tackle. Very strong day for these guys.

James Ihedigbo was very strong today. Blitzed well, covered well and gave some very hard hits to the offense. Really impressed me today and probably earned some playing time.

The rookies all looked good today. Shonn Greene had 6 carries for 25 yards and broke a huge screen play. Matt Slauson held his man well and played strong, nothing amazing but looked good. Now, to Mark Sanchez. I was very impressed with Sanchez today. Although he did not lead the team to a score, he managed more first downs than Kellen Clemens, threw the ball with serious zip and had some nice roll outs. For a rookie against this defense he had a great day, also, he had a ton of drops by his receivers.

    Losers

The wide receivers were unimpressive today. It?s one thing to be able to catch, I played receiver and corner in high school, I can catch, it?s about getting open and making plays. There is no doubt some of our receivers can catch, but there?s more to the position and today was scary. Tons of drops by the young guys including three by Britt Davis, who I wrote this morning Rex had good feelings about. Honestly, it was upsetting and if the Jets announced they traded next years first for Anquan Boldin right now, I wouldn?t be upset.

Kellen Clemens was very shaky today and although he had some great plays, he was unable to get many drives going and because of this had a lot less reps than Mark Sanchez. I get accused a lot of favoring Sanchez but the truth is that as a veteran, Clemens is held to a higher standard. His performance today was ugly in person, and he looked shaky. I?m sorry everyone, I cannot be comfortable with him in at QB this season, today reinforced that.

The tight ends after Dustin Keller looked mediocre at best. Keller is a machine and has improved his blocking but behind him, it?s scary. Simmons is very ray, Kareem Brown has some work to do and the others just don?t look solid. I can see Wayne Hunter in on a lot of running plays this year. We are very thin at TE and WR, could be an issue this season.

I'm psyched about our defense, and I wonder how much our offense will improve by just facing them day in and day out.

If this was in fact an accurate summary, I think Sanchez is about to steal the starting job from KC.

How seriously is Tann. about signing Matt Jones. Our WR corps sounds like a joke right now.

Paul Raymond?? It seems this guy is on the training camp roster every year, and every year he gets cut. What the hell? Why do we keep bringing him back. Plus, the guy went to Brown. I'm not dissing Brown, that's my alma mater, but the Ivy League in general doesn't exactly produce even serviceable NFL talent.

I agree with you on Clemens. We need to give Sanchez the job.

The point Rex always mentions is no mistakes on offense and Clemens makes the most.

I'll be pissed if we start Clemens, Sanchez will learn less sitting than being on the field.

We need Matt bad or someone else, anyone else. Rex could keep Matt in line.

It sounds like the offense stalled a few times because of dropped passes ...

Yes, but I'm still a bit worried. At least we know that our offense is going up against a solid D every day. Hopefully that helps KC and MS. We definetely need a nice WR to help them out, cause I'm not sure if what we have will win us enough games.

i wonder how much the amazing play of the defense is due to a completely inadequate offense. i am looking forward to seeing them in at least preseason games for as long as they will play. hopefully that will give us a little bit better of an idea how good or bad both of these units are.

to the original poster, how can the defense have been so amazing if the rookie qb would have completed 13 of 15 had he not had drops? that doesnt sound like any kind of domination by the defense.

and thanks for the updates and any clarification you can provide.

Yeah it sounds like he had a good scrimmage. I just wish his receivers would catch the damn ball. That can kill a QB's confidence.

so the defense is no doubt a top 10 Defense in the NFL, probably top 5 in the AFC.

the offense is going to be ranked somewhere in the low 20s. Like 22nd.

To hear Pouha is at MLB and Ellis is at DT is hysterical, but also extremely interesting. I'd like to see that in preseason, just to get a feel for what it looks like.

Sanchez doing this well is good, but I can see him dumping off to a lot of 2nd and 3rd progressions all season if he indeed does start this year. i think against lesser defenses the team can score 17-20 pts, but at the same time the D needs to hold opponents to less than that, which means that this D needs to score on defense the way the Ravens and Buccaneers teams do.

Enjoy the defense this year, but if they are on the field for a long time, it'll wear them down. The running game has to be better than last so that which ever QB is at the helm can see a 3rd and 4, and eat clock.

This team will be fun to watch, considering there aren't extreme expectations on them this year. Its a transitional year, not a rebuilding year.

To those asking questions, I have a feeling Supersonic did not write this report.

Very true! It'll be nice to be known as having one of the top defenses in the league. Hopefully it will be year in and year out.

I think its not so much the potential 13 for 15 passing as much as the defense kept them out of the end zone mostly. I don't care if the QB passes for 300 yards as long as he doesn't score much. Apparently a lot of 3 and outs also.

I'd been so anxious about Slauson.
