NYJ rd1- michael floyd wr notre dame with richardson, upshaw, and the premier OLs off of the board, the jets go with the best player available. it's tempting to pass on the potential of mercilus, but after the gholston disaster they decide to go with the safer pick. floyd would immediately make holmes more dangerous, and give mark the safety net he's been missing since braylon left. NYJ rd 2- bobby wagner olb utah state this guy is an all-around player, with an nfl ready body and the ability to play inside or outside. concerns about level of competition are valid, but in the middle of rd 2 there is too much potential to pass on him… especially with a bunch of LBs already off of the board. NYJ rd 3- nate potter ot boise state bringing back hunter probably means the jets will use their first 2 picks on other needs, but if potter is here in round 3 it will be very hard to pass on him. has can contribute right away. NYJ rd 4- ronnie hillman rb san diego state in typical draft day fashion, hillman is the RB who falls past where his projection indicates. the jets waste no time scooping him up as LT's replacement, since they badly need a change of pace guy to compliment SG. it's too early to make a real judgement on powell, but we can all agree that his running style is too similar to SG to be a change of pace back. NYJ rd 5- tysyn hartman s kansas state a guy who was initially recruited as a qb, hartman has good size at 6'3 210 and is very athletic… making him a perfect fit for a team that needs a safety who can cover TEs and make big plays. also a first team academic big 12 honoree and a team captain. that never hurts. NYJ rd 6- george bryan te north carolina state has the potential to be the tight end that the front office/coaching staff wanted mulligan to be… and then some. could definitely come in and contribute immediately as a blocking TE NYJ rd 7- adrian hamilton de/olb prairie view a&m wouldn't be opposed to taking this guy a bit earlier, he has huge sleeper potential. we need all the help we can get rushing the passer (even with the emergence of maybin) and our lbs aren't getting any younger. hamilton would be a great value pick here after putting up huge numbers at a tiny school. any criticism is welcome, as long as it's not cruel
filling needs is good just not sure if they'll be the bpa @ their respective #'s. ps- I've heard of Hamilton's potential, & if I heard it that means every possible scout, Gm, & coach in the league has heard it so I don't know with all that upside that he'll even be there in the 7th rd, but if he is he's worth a shot.
I especially like the Floyd and Potter picks. We could always go for Mark Barron second round if he's available, but if we don't get an Upshaw/Ingram at 16 then going after a pass rusher in the later rounds would be ideal. Unless we sign a big FA but I don't think we're currently in a position to do that.
Overall I like it. You hit on positions of need with good value. This is very well a draft were we could take two OLB's as both of last years starters are getting well into thier 30's and BT is a free agent. Floyd is a stud and is a good pick there if Upsahw is gone. Wagner is a bit on the small side for a 34 OLB. He'll be taking on tackles in the run game that have 60 to 90 pounds on him and better reach. He's a good all around guy just not sure if he is ideal for our defense. I don't think he has the frame to add much more weight as well. He could be good inside, but does not fill the looming holes outside IMO. I liek the potter pick in the third. Very good potential and could help right away if needed. I don't see him starting from day one, but would be able to push Hunter and Ducasse for time.
Were we watching the same offense last year? I'm not sure why so many people are hating on Floyd... he caught 100 passes last year without having a decent qb.. and faced double coverage regularly. If not for his DUI and injury history he would be a lock for the top 10
Don't much like it. I don't like Floyd at all due to character concerns. I also think ND players tend to get overrated. Potter, Bryan and Hamilton are the only picks I like.
I got no problem with Floyd, if Jeffery is off the board. Other than that, not great but not terrible either
Is Potter big enough to play right tackle in a power blocking scheme? Seems like the kind of player that would be better in more of a zone scheme.
Yea I don't understand the whole lets not sign Floyd because of his DUI and injury history but lets bring back Braylon who has had a DUI while with our team and spent all of last season injured. I like Braylon on this team but Floyd has way more upside imo.
Excellent draft but I do agree with Harpua that Wagner is more of a fit in a 4-3 but he's a very underrated prospect.
