This whole CBA situation is surreal. It's like watching a tsunami approach the beach you're standing on; you realize you're likely to be devastated, but you transfixed by the power of it so you just stand there hoping you don't get killed. Everything's up in the air, but one thing is certain: Come Monday morning it will be a whole new world for everybody, but especially Jets fans. With so many variables in play, it seems unlikely the Jets will be able to field a competitive team this year. This is unacceptable to me. It's one thing to live and die through bad season after bad season, but to not have even the illusion of a chance is to match to bear. For that reason, I'm optimistically postulating that the Jets have a 5% chance to be decent next year. I have no statistical basis for it, but I figure it will take brilliant cap reconstruction, and a perfectly run route through free agency and the draft to give the Jets and their fans a chance for some kind of season. Say your prayers boys.
It sucks, but every team is in the same boat. The NFL in general is in horrible shape....Imagine if you were a fan of a team like the Colts that actually had a great chance of competing this upcoming season and into the future- imagine a lockout in 2007.
Job #1 was getting rid of Herm's Cool Aid and Bradway's Band Aid approach to building a winner. So we can draft 7 duds and sign seven Neil O'Donnels this offseason, and we will have had a better offseason that we have in years, IMO.
A lockout will be disastrous it has ruined hockey and baseball has never bee the same.Tagliabue better get it together.
You're probably right. And the worse part is that there is no such thing as rebuilding anymore. By the time you get a good core in place, contracts are up and they are demanding more money and you can't afford them. sucks.....but we'll have to just hang onto that 5%. What else is new? we're Jet fans.
If the Jets can restructure Pennington (likely), cut/restructure Kendall (likely), trade Abraham (nearly guaranteed), they will have nice cap room. That's not even factoring in a possible $10.5M or more increase in the cap if there is a new CBA. I don't think the Jets will field a very good team next year, but the team will have the cap room to sign their draft picks, and make some moves in free agency to help lay the foundation for plenty of success in the future. And I don't think we'll see a 3-13/4-12 type year next year. A losing season? Probably. But I think we will be pretty competitive.
Gsour Jr Take your garbage out of here --bad season after bad season????? Jan 2005 jets were two inches short on a 45yd FG from going to the AFL championship game 2005 season everyone had jets to make playoffs till BOTH QB went down in 3rd game Jan 2003 jets were tied at half at oakland ---the winner goes to AFL champioship game SOUR --TAKE A HIKE AND QUIT THE TEAM JUST LIKE YOU DID IN 1970 Hope you break your legs jumping on and off the JET BANDWAGON
if pennington is healthy we can win 8 games (+/-)2 [i expect him to play for the jets, he plays in all the even numbered years] so im not that dismal
There are two big reasons to believe the Jets can be competitive next year, The Jets talent level will be best it has been since the 2000 season and the schedule will be very easy. Next year the Jets play 8 games against the two worst divisions in football. The NFC North and the AFC South. Add in our two other out of division games are against the Raiders and Browns and and we cannot get an easier schedule. But no matter the improvement in talent and the schedule it all comes down to QB play. If a team does not have good QB play its almost impossible to win. Without Pennington playing well and with confidence we stand little chance of winning. I am not a big fan of Pennington but he is a fighter and he wins. He should begin throwing in the next month and should be ready for camp. Will he be ready mentally is a bigger question. We certainly have the oppurtunity next year to win. We have the talent and the schedule. Do we have a QB ready mentally and physically to play and do we have a cs that can effectively use our talent to win. If Pennington restructures and is healthy and we add an average NT, RT and a Center and I will be somewhat optimistic.
