As a result of the trade the 49ers will now have two first round picks in the 2006 draft. This is the first time San Francisco has had two first-round selections since 2000. ?We took advantage of a great opportunity to acquire a second first-round draft pick today after working out a trade with the Denver Broncos,? head coach Mike Nolan said. ?We feel like we acquired more value by making the trade for this pick. I am looking forward to improving our team with all ten draft picks, including the two first-round picks.? San Francisco has 10 draft picks in 2006: two first-round draft picks, a third round pick from a trade with Washington, an extra sixth-round pick from a trade with Tampa Bay and an additional seventh-round selection from a trade with Jacksonville along with a compensatory pick in the seventh round. The 49ers open the 2006 draft with the sixth and twenty second overall selection in the first round, third (84), fourth (100), the fifth (140), two in the sixth (175) and (192) and three in the seventh (213), (236) and (254) rounds. Perhaps they intend to move up and grab a qb
I'm just gunna say something to everybody on TGG... if it was posted atleast 10 minutes ago, it's for sure already on TGG
That'd be pretty stupid of them, considering the chose their QB of the future with their #1 last year. Bush, maybe, but no QB.
Two things: 1)Why would they take a QB when they took one with the #1 pick last year? 2)If they wanted a QB, they could've easily gotten Leinart, Young, or Cutler at 6
So, the obvious related question. Would you take their 6 and 22 for our 4 and a late rounder? I think if Mario is gone I would make that trade in a heartbeat. We really cannot trade our pick until we're on the clock. If we traded now, and something crazy happened dropping Bush to #4...
What about our 3rd and the 6th we got for Herm. If the 49ers want some bad enough at 4, they'll bite. We'd have picks 6, 22, 29, and 35
Did Denver not get that pick in the Abe deal? They let it go for a 2nd and a 3rd? That does not seem like much to me.
they got the 15 in that deal.....and they are equal on the draft points(780 which i think is in the article) considering denver at 22 is only in position to draft a olb/cb which they dont need at all it is a great trade for them and considering the 49ers can add a top rb...nice trade for them
from looking at the trade though...i think it would be smart of the 49ers to take vernon davis at 6 and then the best back available at 22(williams) im curious (if they pick up davis) if eric johnson enters the trade market...he did decent in SF which is saying something....id throw them a 5th
This should remind people what it will take to move up the draft. I've constantly read on this site that the Jets can trade the #4 and the #29 for the second overall pick. If it took a 2nd and a 3rd to secure a late first rounder for San Fran, it's gonna a lot more than a first and essentially an early second to get the second overall pick.
EDIT For some reason, I was looking at the 3rd overall, which = 2200. 4th overall = 1800. Revised math: 4th overall = 1800 + 2nd (34th overall) = 560, which is 2360. 6th overall = 1600 + 22nd overall = 800, which is 2400. So basically, it'd be our 4th and a 2nd for their 6th and 22nd. Not necessarily the greatest trade.
