#49ers TE George Kittle believes the NFL should implement another bye week to combat the physical toll of a 17-week season https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...a-couple-hundred-thousand-on-body-upkeep/amp/ 19 Weeks of regular season football would also be great for revenue and fans of the game. I’d imagine the bye weeks would be separated in two groups - Weeks 5-10 and Weeks 10-15 with each team getting 1 game off per group with a caveat of avoiding an “off-on-off” series which doesn’t seem like it would ever be a good thing unlike two bye weeks in a row. *Weeks 10 is in both groups bc 1 team might have off weeks 9&10 while another has 10&11 19 Weeks of Football Love it? Hate it? Inevitable? Impossible?
That puts the super bowl on Presidents’ Day weekend where a lot of 9-5 Americans are off the next day. That’s the nfls goal anyway, only reason they’d fight it is they want the 18th game and that would push them past Presidents’ Day. 19 weeks of football is 19 weeks of gambling so I’m in for it.
NFL's already doing everything it can to kill the golden goose for a few more short term dollars, so why stop now?
The Jets have an extra bye week every October. That’s the week you say bye to any playoff hopes and start looking forward to the draft.
The continuous watering down of a quality product to attract fringe fans... shitty rule changes, stupid scheduling ( I hate the 17 game thing), expanding the playoffs even more.....
I've been on the fence. It's becoming "sports entertainment" more and more every year, but they are still allowed to tackle some players. The good news is that once we do win one, it will probably have a well-written storyline. But it will be directed by Michael Bay.
Didn't the NFL do this once in the 1990s? I remember the Jets being off twice. Its probably a good thing for the players and for TV purposes so they will probably do it but it is not without risk. For the crappy teams you will see a scenario where there is an additional bye week during a time where there is nothing to really play for. You run the risk of the fan base packing it in after that second bye. Along with that, it will bring an additional week of January regular season football, which just sucks in the Northeast when the team is already eliminated
1993 was one year, don't think there were 2. It didn't work our well then but times change so remains to be seen if the players would bitch about it again, well the good teams would bitch if they were on a streak, bad teams the owners would bitch because it would give the fans a reason to pack it in early for the year.
good call 1993 is it. Just looked it up, the Jets had a bye week in September and later in October. Just Stupid. Finished 8-8 and fired Coslet after the season, elevating their young D coordinator to Head Coach in 1994
Jonathan_Vilma has been saying this for three years on TGG message board. Whack they gave that loser George Kittle the headline.
Here’s what I think, 18 games, starts Labor Day weekend, 2 byes and the super bowl on Presidents’ Day weekend. That’s coming soon
There was an interesting proposal put out 3 or 4 years ago. 18 game schedule with each player only being allowed to play 16 games. I loved the idea as it would add a lot of strategy as to when to sit out players but I can understand fans may not want to pay full price to see backups.
