Round 1- #4- Jay Cutler. Don't need to say much about this pick, it'd been beaten to death already. Round 2- Nick Mangold, Center, Ohio State, 6'4", 305. Mangold has a 5.0 forty time, can pull, has the strength to run block straight up in a man scheme, and has a mean streak. It's crucial to get Kendall back to guard where is is best. Mangold is ready to step in and start. Round 3- Ryan O'Callaghan, ORT, Cal., 6'6", 347. An anchor at RT for the running game.... another guy who is ready to start in the NFL immediately. The fall back pick here is Levy Jabari, So Carolina, 6'6', 330. Round 3- (comp pick)- Mike Kudla, DE, Ohio State, 6'2", 265. This is the guy no one ever heard of until he did 45 reps on the bench at the combine, tying the record. Just under 5 flat on the forty, he's a freakin beast, but has an injury history of sorts. It's rumored he had a bad day, and can actually do well over 50 reps on the bench. He may be a bit undersized to be a DE in the 3-4, but he makes up for that with his football mentality and his brute strength. Round 4- Will Blackmon, CB/WR, Boston College, 6'0", 202. A true Mangini type, this guy has switched back and forth from CB to WR in his senior year, a team player. Also a good return man, with a 4.46 forty time, he's an incredible athlete, but took one for the team in switching to WR. He may need a year of grooming before he's ready to start at CB, but maybe it won't take that long.... he was a CB for his first three years at BC. Round 4- (from KC) Brandon Marshall, WR, Central Florida, 6'4", 229. Another converted DB, he's been called little TO, but only so far as his size and speed compares to that turd. He put up a 4.50 in the forty at the combine. I admit, most of my picks are optomistic, many if not all of these players are projected to be taken higher than I have them, but not outlandishly so. This in my personal dream draft.... the future QB, the fixed O line, A big fast WR, a return man, and some very promising additions on the defense. I also presume that the one big FA the Jets will aquire is the NT from Baltimore. This draft allows Mangini to have a very nice rotation in the front seven for the 3-4 D scheme. Thoughts? PS: My plan calls for spending next year's first round pick on an RB for the final big piece of the puzzle.
I do like it. To be able to get Mangold in the second would be a coup. I have been singing the praises of Marshall for a while.
Where exactly does a rookie WR fit on our roster? #4 indefinitely? Or is this scenario envisioning the release of McCareins/Coles at some stage not too far down the road?
You have to remember that Dante Ridgeway is the #4 receiver on the depth chart right now behind Coles, JMac & Cotchery so if someone was drafted early in the second day it would be to fight for the #4 & #5 spot and it 3 years it is not out of reach to see Cotch and Marshall (example) as the top 2 receivers on the team if they progress.
Absolutely, but we've only just got to a stage where Cotchery may have the opportunity to play a bit. I think next year is the year to look for another WR, though the theory of picking one this year is fine if you count on losing either Coles or McCareins in 12 months time.
The Jets don't have a WR with Marshall's size AND speed. I can also see McCariens being shown the door in 2007 or 2008, depending on if he can rebound from a disasterous 2005 and the condition of the slary cap. He has great hands, can get plenty of YAC, and .... this is one reason I think Mangini might like him.... he's played in the D backfield. Of all the picks I have here, he may be the most likely to be off the board well before I have him picked. Coles is uncutable with this new contract, much like McCariens was this year. This has to be the year Cotch takes a run at McCariens' job. Marshall like most rookie WR's will need a year before he's ready. He can also be a good ST's guy, having that kind of size and being a converted DB. Could be a great gunner on the punting team.
Hey Guys, My First post here, wanna see what you guys think of this mock i put together. 1st round : OT D'brickashaw Ferguson Virginia 1st round : RB Lendale White (from detriot) USC 2nd round : DT Gabe Watson Michigan 3rd round : QB Omar Jacobs bowling green or QB Brodie Croyle Alabama 3rd round : C Greg Eslinger (via lamont jordan) minnesota 4th round : CB Kelly Jennings Miami 4th round : DE Frostee Rucker ( from KC for herm) USC Thanks.
Croyle probably won't be there in the third and we'd have a hard time getting Jacobs there too. Jennings also probably won't fall. Like the idea of the draft though. Rucker is perfect as a 3-4 OLB.
A lot of guys on here (including me) don't like the D'Brick pick... you'd have to do a search for "Adrian Jones" in order to find one of the long explantions that I don't feel like typing. Kelly Jennings will be gone at that time and I'm pretty sure that someone will snatch Eslinger in the late 2nd, early 3rd. Other then that it's a pretty good mock.
Optimistic is a nice way to put it. It sounds better than 100% inconcievable. I do have to admit that you just posted more or less my dream draft as well.
If Mangold goes in the first, then swap the RT and Center picks around.... maybe even delay the center pick into the fourth, for Eslinger or Degory. With the exception of Marshall, most are only projected to go 5 to 15 picks in front of where I have them. Blackmon, since he is considered a project could fall. I have a backup in there for O'Callighan.
Thanks man, i honestly wouldn't like to take D'brickashaw either, i dont understand why we would waste such a high pick on a OT when we can find pretty decent OT's in free agency this year. i only posted that mock because people told me it was better then the other one i posted with it on another forum. here's the other i posted with it.. Round 1 : QB Jay Cutler Round 1 : RB Lendale White *from detriot* Round 2 : DT Gabe Watson Round 3 : DE Elvis Dumervil Round 3 : WR Greg Jennings * via Lamont Jordan comp pick* Round 4 : OG Tatusi Lutui Round 4 : CB Anwar Phillips ( KC's pick for Herm) Round 5 : FB Lawrence Vickers
This doesn't adress the O line, which is why some folks may not have liked it that much. If Mangini really is a disicple of Parcells and Belichick, taking Ferguson at 4 won't happen. It's also unlikely that he would go for an RB in the first round. I do think they will go Cutler at 4, if he's still there. If there is a Detroit trade, I would look for a defensive playmaker there. If it's Denver who gives us one of their first round picks, then I'd expect to see the O line get adressed. I think they will look to draft a RT and a center before a WR. Lutui I think will be pretty good, but if we get a center, I don't think they will look for a guard, with both Kendall and Moore recently restructuring their deals.
Why waste a pick on a QB who will not perform this year. We need to fill holes........everyone turned on Chad so fast. I will be one of the few who will look back at this moment and laugh at all you nay sayers.......I love what Tangini is doing right now.....
If Mangini and Tanny think they have a franchise QB to draft, I don't see how that is a wasted pick at all. I still love Pennington.... the guy , while brittle, is tough as nails playing through pain few others could have, but to hang your hat on him as our QB is way too risky. My guess is you will be pretty PO'd on draft day, when they take Cutler.
