I realize of course that this mock's picks (Especially the Jets selections) will get a lot of boos and criticism. Yet most of the needs on defense were filled.

    - Both Kimo Von Olhoffen and Monquisanto Pope were signed to play opposite Shaun Ellis in the new 3-4. So DE shouldn't be too much of a worry for now.

    - Newly added Brad Kassell should play in the middle with Victor Hobson and Jonathan Vilma giving us a few fine ILBs. Eric Barton plays on the outside while on the other goes our 4th overall selection AJ Hawk. While probably not the consensus pick around here, this guy is a sure possibilty with his leadership, speed, tackling and playmaking skills. This is just the kind of player I could see playing for New England in their 3-4. Now he plays in ours and should be a great starter for a long while.

    - Andre Dyson, David Barrett, Justin Miller and Derrick Strait form a fine group of young CBs. If one of these players steps up and becomes a #1, than CB won't be an issue for a long time.

    - I happen to be a big fan of Kerry Rhodes/Erik Coleman starting at Safety. However I saw that Coleman slipped a little last season. Although I feel he will rebound, another mid round pick spent on Safety does us no good here. A veteran can be brought in if anything.

    - We get a starting RT and LG hopefully immeaditley. Eslinger will hopefully start someday and supplant Pete Kendal at C. If we could fix our Offensive Line in this draft, it'll pay huge dividends in the future.

    - We also aquire another great type of player in Mike Haas and with a little luck, a potential starting QB someday in Omar Jacobs.

Damn I really got off typing... So let me hear some feedback and thank you for taking the time to read this.

with acquiring kassell we dont need Aj hawk, we could use either carpenter, wimbley or lawson. Someone to be pass rushing OLb in 3-4. If leinart and D'Brick are gone i would trade down and pick cutler. Cutler has better arm strength than leinart which would be better in the windy giants stadium. Pass on Mario because although it would be nice to have a his kind of talent we have Kimo and ellis at DE in 3-4 and if we get wimbley or lawson they can be the 4-3 DE's also.

No need for an LB at 4. Give me Williams or even Cutler over Hawk. And I love AJ.

Why Joseph over Mangold and Addai and Watson and Croyle? OG isn't a problem, C is.

Give me Max Jean-Gilles over Joseph in the second. You picked a mauler in the first round, so pick another mauler to compliment him on that side. A line won't work that well together if it has a bunch of different blocking types. Not to mention that neither of them use a zone blocking scheme which is what guys like Joseph and Colledge are there for.

    A line of:
    Jones - Kendall (and future pickup) - Degory (4th) - Jean-Gilles - McNeill

Would support three maulers, a middle man (Kendall) and our pass protector (Jones).

AJ Hawk would have to start in the middle. He's a good blitzer, but he's not really a rush backer. If this draft went through I think our alignment would be..

OLB - Bryan Thomas, Matt Chatham
SILB - AJ Hawk, Victor Hobson
WILB - Jonathan Vilma, Brad Kassell
OLB - Eric Barton, Darrell McClover

That would easily give us one of the deepest cores in the league, having six guys with starting experience. But then again, with the parity at linebacker, gives us the chance to really mix it up and throw players in there at different spots.

I think if we took Jean-Gilles in the 2nd, and Degory in the 3rd that this would make a pretty killer team.

Like the Pierre Woods acquisition, because while he's very one dimensional, he's an absolute beast when trying to get to the passer.

I'm not going to lie, I'm not a fan of this draft.

A.J. Hawk is a great player, but I don't think he's a 3-4 OLB. A 3-4 ILB is easy enough to find that there is zero way you use the 4th pick on one. As a result I don't think you properly filled the need for a pass-rushing OLB to replace Abraham.

Since Kendall appears to be here for a while, I'm not a huge fan of 2 first day picks on the interior of the line, especially when neither really have the history/ability to play multiple spots on the line.

I'm not quite sure where Drew really fits. Based on his size he's really only a part time back. That really isn't needed since the Jets have RB depth (Martin, Blaylock, Houston). Drew's two great skills are already on the roster, his speed (Blaylock) and his return ability (Dwight and Miller). Since Askew is pretty athletic for a back his size, the only way I draft a RB (barring Deangelo falling into their laps at #29) is a pure power blocking FB in the later rounds.

Disagree. Hawk is a sideline to sideline player and plays the run and pass well. Everything I've 'read' about Kassell says that he is a liability against the pass. Simply Hawk is versatile and is primarily a OLB , Kassell is a MLB.

I can't see us passing on Williams for Hawk although I would be wrapped to get either of them.

I love the Mike Haas pick up , he really impressed me late in the season and the obvious comparisons to Chrebet are going to be made. Please god let him fall to us.

    Like the Draft...

But would see us taking Mangold and not Joseph. Also don't see the Jets taking a back unless its one of the premier ones that drops (and drops far)

Oh and high (as this is my first post)

Ah see now... The Jets just signed Trey Teague so therefore Kendall plays Guard and Davin Joseph won't be the pick.

Oh well, back to the drawing board...

Well at this time I had Pete Kendall moving to Center, leaving the LG spot open. Now I see that because of the Teague signing, this mock won't work too well...

Yeah he probably won't because a team coulc trade up for a QB, but I don't have any trades in mine, so he does fall a little.

At the same time though, who would have thought Aaron Rodgers would fall to #24 on draft day? There is a chance Oakland gets a QB, but if they do go DT or DB, watch Young/Cutler fall.
