http://www.draftcountdown.com/sub/Mock-Draft-A.php I love the 2nd RD Pick for the Jets, but if the board fell this way I would have taken NT Dan Williams in RD 1 Williams & Alualu (with the underrated Mike DeVito), and our D-line would set for quite some time We would have outstanding rotational depth behind Jenkins & Ellis for now, and outstanding future starters as well JMO
agreed alualu and Williams would be fantastic additions to our old DL rotation. I'm starting to sour on Tate, not as a prospect, but as a pick for the Jets. I am a big fan of snagging Freddie Barnes in the 4th as our future slot star. If the board fell that way, we would have to take Williams in the first.
This is exactly how I feel, although I'm certainly not going to be screaming bloody murder if the Jets take Tate. Either would be a solid pick, but I'd rather have Williams/Alualu and take a shot on Barnes later.
I've had Alualu in my last 2 Jet mock's in RD 2. I 'm so high on Alualu, if the Jets don't get him I'll be disappointed. I wouldn't be upset at all drafting Tate, but passing on Dan Williams would be a huge mistake. I really doubt the Jets go D-Line back to back....Rd 1 & 2. It all depends how the board falls!!! The first 2 picks.... I'm leaning toward are McCourty and Alualu. The Jets are still going to add a corner in this draft and McCourty's value, especially on Special teams, is to good to pass.
I would be on board for drafting Tate if Leon isn't in a Jet uniform. If Leon is healthy and playing for us, I don"t see the urgent need. I also think the GeorgiaTech. reciever will be the first one taken and am surprised at how high he has Odrick going.
I'm not sure the Jets want to invest that much money into the cornerback position. Remember, we're going to have to re-sign Darrelle Revis to a HUGE contract and Cromartie will more than likely be re-signed too. Devin McCourty is a heck of a player, but corner has to be pushed down a little bit on our draft board. Special teams value shouldn't matter in the first few rounds - you can find good special teamers in late rounds and in free agency. Guys like James Ihedigbo, Brad Smith, and Marquis Cole are very good special teamers. I think the Jets should strongly consider drafting another safety and a nickel or dime type corner in this draft. I'd also like to see a few defensive front seven players looked at.
Jared Odrick is arguably the best 3-4 end in this draft. We all saw what happened with Tyson Jackson last season, so Wright is probably just speculating that the same thing could happen with Odrick.
Thinking like Rex...can never have enough corners and there is a chance, may be slight, we may not re-up Cromartie. I hope Cromartie has a great year and the Jets resign him. I agree we would be investing alot of coin on corners, a late Rd 1 won't hurt the pocketbook too significantly. If McCourty is available at #29 he has to be on Tanny's short list. Here's my problem at #29.....there isn't many players I really like that I believe would be a good fit for the Jets. It's not a good value position for the Jets. Brandon Graham, Iupati, Kindle, Dan Williams, Earl Thomas.....will be gone. Trading down would be a great option. The only players I would trade up for is Brandon Graham/Earl Thomas.
Same thing happened with Carriker as well(who wound up with a 4-3 team). Take a look at Wooton. I think he compares well to Odrick on tape. Only minus is his knee injury.I liked how he looked going against Buluga in the Iowa game. I would hate to see Odrick on the Pats.
He played Left End in the Iowa game, never went up against Bulaga. He faced Kyle Calloway pretty much the whole way through and was for the most part handled. If he had gone against Bulaga he would have been annihilated. To put it simply, Wootton isn't very good, for a more expanded opinion, Wootton has 34 End size but thinks he's a 43 speed rushing end.
Sorry. It was the 2008 film. He played injured in 2009 and still looked good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waZuFK_pxjA
You posted a damn highlight video of a guy that's a mediocre sack specialist. Like GH said, Wootton plays like a 4-3 end. He doesn't fit into our scheme at end. He won't take up a lot of space and he'll get owned while defending the run.
Haha, dude, he's doing the same in those highlights. He's up against Calloway in both of the plays on that video.
I think he can play in the 3-4, just needs some development. I said the same thing about Calais Campbell 2 years ago. I was right that time too.
