Bryce Petty stepped it up after that bad first pas.

Unlike the anthem kneeler, Bryce got better as the game went on. NO TURNOVERS after that and no stupid plays.

He has a gunslinger mentality and having Powell run well saved Petty from dying out there.

Ijalana, catapano, jenkins and qvale are such ass.

100% agreed. But even Petty's 2nd half perfomance won't be enough for some people.

I saw improvement in Petty as the game went on. I saw the team energized. I know a lot of it was Powell, but I'm happy. Keep improving the next three games and maybe we can have room for optimism.

Nobody should be overly excited about Petty today, nor should they be really down.

He showed what we all know, that he has the arm and potential.
I am just looking for him to look a little better next week and the week after etc.

Petty was okay, not super impressive. The talent around him isn't great, but at the same time, the 49ers are horrible. I love his attitude on the field, but he has a lot of work to do if he wants to be a good QB.

Guys. We played the second worst team in the league (third worst to me, I do believe we are 2nd worst truly if not worst) Carlos Hyde put up almost 200 yards on us on not even 20 carries. We are absolute garbage and I just can't wait until the 49ers draft a stud right ahead of us in the draft and we settle for who knows

    Said it in the game thread;

Doesn't feel the pressure, was taking unnecessary sacks and looked like he was locking onto his receiver too long.

Unlike Fitz and Geno tho' - He didn't try sling it into multiple coverage and it's pretty much his first week going in as starter not year 2 or 12.

Let's see how he does against two teams that are still scrapping for the post season and Rexbowl IV.

Great effort by Petty. Getting better game by game. All we can ask for.

No more comparisons to MacElroy. He won.

He ended the Kaepernick talk. That's a win in my book.

He has a ways to go . But most of the star quarterbacks in the NFL that have great careers made rookie mistakes but found ways to tough out close wins. They did it by limiting their mistakes and playing with heart. Great job Bryce!

I'm not ready to give up on Petty so quickly. He showed me plenty of heart and potential today. He made some rookie errors but he held his own behind a patched up line. And of course, as a huge bonus, the man got some major cannon for an arm. I'm looking forward to see him play the rest of the games.
Now, is it just me or Revis is really a non entity anymore? He made one play...period. Against Brady, he will get crucified.
We have a few pieces of raw talent and youth to build behind. We are basically set at WR and TE right now. Give me a stud LT and a stud bruiser RB to compliment Powell and the offense could make some noise. QB will be determined by season end. If Petty and or Hack can not be ready here comes Romo.
Defense on the other hand, will require further surgery. I think Richardson will be part of a trade this off season.
I laugh at the concern that the 49ers will draft a stud ahead of us. They were going to draft ahead of us anyhow, and there should be plenty of stud talent when we draft...Safety, OLB, OL, RB, hopefully even CB.
No QB will be drafted ahead of us because there are no real top studs. Only position I'm concerned about is LT.
In my opinion the biggest draft would be a new DC.

Well, he played well. But he also exposed the deficiencies along the offensive line that haven't really been seen from this team with the quick short passing offense that Fitzpatrick was running.

I had thought that the offensive line played pretty solidly the past year and a half, but suspected it was because Fitzpatrick can't throw the ball down field at all so as a result the line doesn't have to block very long.

At least we definitively know this now, rather than thinking some of these hacks like Qvale and Ijalana could be a starter next year.

The playcalling was also a thousand times better with a quarterback that can throw more than a quick slant and a runningback flat ball.

Gailey's piss-poor playcalling with Fitzpatrick seems to only be because of how handcuffed his quarterback was in terms of physical limitations.

Give him a stud RB - Fournette or someone who can break it on any given down - and he'll be even better. The OL would improve too, as they wouldn't have to pass block so much. There's now a glimmer of hope.

I saw some positives from him today. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on the pick, chalk it up to nerves and pressure. But he calmed downed, settled in, and made some impressive throws. This win goes to Powell, but Petty stepped up. He showed a lot of toughness and resiliency. The guy couldn't even go through his 5 or 7 step drops without getting hit or major pressure. He didn't seem to let that get to him. But my favorite play was the 2 point conversion. Never gave up and put it all out there to get the 2.

He looked OK today, but not overly impressive in any way. He's going to have to perform well against the division rivals that he's got coming up, all of which are significantly better teams than that joke of a team he faced today.

That said, I'm rooting for him. I think he's got more potential than the Sims, McElroys, and Bollingers of the world, but he's got a long way to go in order to have a chance at being THE guy going into next season.

As long as we finish with a top 5 pick and Petty shows some glimpses of improvement for the next 3 weeks then it's a win win. We should be able to get immediate impact guys in the first two rounds of the draft (maybe more) as long as Mac does his job.

What if they win their final 3 games and end up with a pick outside the top 10?

Will you act like a petulant child who didn't get the Christmas present it demanded?

It doesn't matter what happens from here on in.

At the end of this 4 game stretch we've given ample game time to a guy who could either be an answer to our QB problems or a surehanded backup who we can re-sign on the cheap. Either way, the roster just got a little bit stronger.

I'd rather see this kid grow into the position each week and give us hope that we may have a QB then worry about falling out of the top 5 in the draft.

The Browns , 49ers & Bears all need QB's so unless we get the #1 pick we aren't going to have too many blue chip options available when our team is on the clock anyway.

Just keep improving. Anyone who wants him to fail just because they can have their "told you so" moment is an idiot.
