    # 28 Jonathan Stewart
    Position: Running Back
    Height: 5-11
    Weight: 234
    Year: Sophomore
    High School/Other College: Timberline HS

this kid is one of my favorite players in college, by basicaly his measurables alone. pure muscle at 235 with imo perfect height. at 5-11 235 he ran a 4.34! by the time hes eligble he will be the best rb to come out in years, yes bigger then reggie bush. just making sure you heard it from me first.

Big things were expected from one of program’s highest profile recruits in recent years and he didn’t disappoint, leading the country in kickoff returns as a true freshman (33.7 avg.). Seldom has the program benefitted from a talent at such an early age as he combines the best of size, speed and tremendous strength. Not only did he surpass school record for top power clean by a running back, his 385 lbs. during winter testing was bettered only by pair of program’s former defensive linemen now in the NFL (Haloti Ngata, Igor Olshansky). Also bested career positional bench press record (410 lbs.) while 38.5 vertical leap stands second all time. His 4.34 40 hand time ranks as school’s fourth-fastest all-time among running backs. Has displayed exceptional intelligence to complement his natural talent, possessing knack to avoid tacklers in the open field, game-breaking speed as well as the power that makes him hard to bring down from the first hit, sometimes to a fault. Maintains the uncanny balance to fall forward when finally brought down. Also benefits from dependable hands as a receiver and utilizes great strength to develop into a very good pass blocker. Yet perhaps his greatest asset is a drive to settle for nothing but the very best. Led all rushers with 74 yards and one touchdown in the 2006 Spring Game.

Yeah I like this kid a lot. I have a feeling that the 2009 draft is going to have some great Backs in it while the 2008 draft will be largely busts.

yeah him and steve slaton alone make a sick rb draft.

i think next year is the draft for playmakers though. my favorites, c.johnson, AD, Lynch and Jarret are all very skilled unique players.

Yeah, I'm also not sold on either.

Slaton doesn't translate to the pro game...

    and

Peterson is a bit too big for my liking, and worried about his injury history and all the hits he has taken.

I really like Kenny Irons, love the way he runs.

Unfortunately I don't like him much either
I think it is going to be a rough year for backs.

Did you mean you like the 08 class (Slaton/Stewart's first year to declare) and dont like the 07 (next coming draft)?

Either way, I really don't see what's not to love about Adrian Peterson. Sure, you'll probably only get about 7 years of him playing really good football, but he's the type of back that a solid offense could ride to a title.

Yeah that's what I meant. Eh, just something about Adrian Peterson I don't like. His is more of a preference thing whereas the others I just don't think they will translate well to the NFL (Slaton) or are overhyped and not as good as people say they are (Irons, Lynch). I am concerned about Peterson's workload, one-dimensionality and presumed lack of speed. Worst case scenario - Ron Dayne. Best case scenario - Cedric Benson.

What about Marshawn Lynch? I am personally not enamored with his abilities but he's certainly a prospect to keep an eye on.

5-11 220 4.4, i love marshawn lynch, even though hes not doin to great this year and may be a system back, his measurables are great.. skins second rounder possibly???? yea just dreaming i know. wouldnt mind taken him with our **19th pick**. next year is all about reconstructing our offense into a fast and intimidating squad, lynch can do that.

We are still not positive what type of Mangini prefers... the elusive, fast back, or the bigger more punishing back.

I tend to think that he prefers the later through his acquisition of Barlow, and a potential preference for a back that can control tempo. Unfortunately it doesn't seem as though there are any of those backs in the coming draft. Peterson is a big back for sure, but I share concerns that he seems to have "something" missing. That might be a consistent passing game, but for all the hype, I remain to truly be impressed. He seems content to hit the big run once in a while, and beyond that drift through the game. A characteristic that Tangini would certainly not want.

That's the main reason I like Irons because he runs hard, and even in the LSU game, run for probably the toughest 70 yards in the NCAA. However, he is a bit on the small side. I wouldn't be surprised if we do something before the draft, but there's a whole season to be played before any of that happens. Moreover, I am not sold on any of the backs, I just like Kenny Irons the most.

I watched Lynch only once this year and it was the Tennessee game and he had a few nice runs but was largely shut down completely. Now it remains to be seen if Tennessee has a great defense or Lynch is overrated, but one thing that is for certain is Tedford's system, though largely attributed to helping QBs, churns out 1000 yard rushers as if he coached in Denver. Remember J.J. Arrington? Adimchinobe Echemandu? These guys had pretty good careers under Tedford and did nothing in the pros which leads me to believe that Lynch is going to have to do something drastic to make me want to side with him after the Tennessee debacle.

-MC- he might just be available in round #2 next year, you never know, he could be a Joseph Addai kinda guy.

We can steal Micheal Bush. His injury will have him slip in the draft. He has GREAT SIZE/SPEED ratio. I would like to see what Ced can do but it appears like its not going to happen.

Add Deshawn Wynn to a back I would like the jets to look at. Once again good size speed ratio.

I think Rambo has a good point that Lynch might be a system back and Tedford does not have the best track record for producing top notch running backs. I am also wary of Bush, not for the injury concerns, though they cannot be ignored. But a RB of that size, regardless of speed, might be too big of a target. No question the guy is a beast but might be too easy to hit. I am not sure though, my feelings on Bush seem to go back and forth from day to day.

Did J.J. Arrington have 2000 yards at Cal?

what kind of Marshawn Lynch debacle occurred in Tennesse?

He rushed for for like 6.3 yards per carry and the QBs threw 42 times.

    It wasn't his debacle.

He had good numbers, but when I watched it, he disappeared and it looked like they took him out of the game.

Thats' funny, I was pimpin this kid when he was playing high school ball. Most thought that he was going to Tennessee. How 'bout when he averaged less than four yards a pop last season as a true freshman? He's very good, but not great so don't get it twisted.

I really like him, but try watching him play for a while before going crazy on the stat book.
